“Europe, in its entirety, has become one of the major arenas in which the Israeli-Palestinian conflict plays out, especially in the realm of public opinion. It is a substantial part of Europe’s own identity—its interpretation of the past and the shaping of its future—that is now at stake.”
Full program of the canceled conference here. There is absolutely nothing problematic in there.
But as Patrick Wolfe shows, Zionism requires the "elimination of the native" not only in the present, but also in the past 2/

I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:
Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

No matter how they voted last night, every one of them has a say in maintaining Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin as their caucus leaders. Every one of them is accountable here.
For the midnight crew on this #EdmundFitzgwtald50 anniversary, I have added more markups to the Newsweek article that gave Gordon Lightfoot his template for His "Wreck of" song lyrics.
So @schumer.senate.gov really thinks we don’t understand that he orchestrated this by getting senators not up for re-election to vote yes?
in any case it is wild that voters just sent a huge message and a bunch of senate democrats are all, “it doesn’t look like anything to me”
i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Chris Murphy: "There will be pretty substantial damage to a Dem brand that has been rehabilitated if on the heels of an election in which the people told us to keep fighting, we immediately stop... if we surrender without having gotten anything, I worry it'll be hard to get them back up off the mat"

yes definitely
Yesterday in Chicago ICE abducted a preschool teacher.
From 2018. Still good.
This piece argues that Israel's dependency, rooted in a long history of imperial patronage, underpins its genocidal campaigns. The path to ending Israel's violence lies in targeting the enablers who sustain its brutality.

The Myth of Israeli Innovation
Israel has long relied on Western patrons for arms and backing—even as it has cast itself as a security “innovator” the West can’t afford to do without.

Aside from absolutely everything else having to do with them, I am ecstatic to see the end of Giuliani, whose name I mistyped every freaking time, and the arrival of Mamdani, whose name is crazy easy to type.

Austen, Melville, Twain, Parker, Eliot, and Hawthorne couldn't have done it better
“This case, ladies and gentleman of the jury, is about a sandwich.”

Closing arguments from the defense in the DC sandwich guy case are now underway.
Melville goes off on a 30-page tangent about whether a hot dog is a sandwich.
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.

I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.

But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.

Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.
I am no fan of Ackman, but this is how to respond to loss with some level of grace and we should let him rather than constantly dunk
"'They’re spending more money than I would even tax them,' [Mamdani] said in an interview with MSNBC last week."

This is the message. Make it clear that these billionaires aren't just worried about losing money. They're worried about losing the ability to exchange their money for power.

“When we enter City Hall in 58 days, expectations will be high. We will meet them. A great New Yorker once said that while you campaign in poetry, you govern in prose. If that must be true, let the prose we write still rhyme, and let us build a shining city for all.”
