The one thing I like about the "rift" framing is it implies once again that if you have any principles beyond "Trump is awesome and the specialest little boy in the land" you are necessarily opposed to the Trumpist project and have indeed created a rift between you two that can never be crossed

The first hurdle is supremacy clause immunity, a judicially-created doctrine that holds states cannot charge federal officers in state court w state crimes for things that happen while they are reasonably carrying out their federal jobs.

I generally agree, but not sure this propaganda is aimed at everyday Americans who saw the footage. It’s aimed at the refs. They want false neutrality from institutions of civil society, they want both-sidesing from the media, they want chiding of whatever protestors do in response to this. (1/2)

The law part of my brain wants to point out how fundamentally wrong on the law of police force this is.
But maybe that’s just how I stay sane.
Because this isn’t abt legal error. This is about how we’ve given murderous psychopaths huge platforms, and that’s a void terrifying to stare into.
