Accurate analysis is not despair.

A thread of some of my Greatest Hits in political writing.
I remember having a conversation about this with a well-meaning conservative who thought that he would have to actually explain the mechanics of queer sex, and I was all like "what? NO! Gross! You just say they love each other!"
always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay

The radical Left agree: get Jeremy Corbyn's red-brown brother the hell away from us www.workersliberty.org/story/2026-0...
Piers Corbyn has no place in the left
Piers Corbyn has got through the nomination process for the Central Executive Committee of Your Party. He should never have been allowed to stand.

No Syrians or Kurds?

Not beating the allegations that Rojava is to foreign anarchists what Cuba is to foreign communists

... well, some cultures put a higher value on being-on-time than others, but many of those who don't are "white", eg. the Irish

The ghost of Enrico Berlinguer would be very surprised to hear you say that

Incidentally this makes a lot of ultra leftists quite angry— they think DSA's primary function is funneling people and resources into the Democratic Party where they are moderated gradually into nothing. The thing is that there is no such thing as the party and that's not what drives moderation.

Like hypocrisy is the homage that vice pays to virtue, pseudoscience is the homage that irrationality pays to rationality
February 10, 2026 at 1:55 AM
But the thing is that there's no precautions possible. The people spreading these lines are the ones making the point that, whatever Trump wants, Trump gets.
February 10, 2026 at 1:51 AM
I think the root of this is a misconception that the Constitution is the final arbiter of democracy/right and wrong. Like, if Trump could find a way *under the Constitution* to become King, then that would be it and liberalism would have to surrender. Many libs agree with John Eastman on this.
don't carry maga's water for them. don't try to work out how there's some secret loophole in the constitution that magically ends democracy. there isn't. that's the whole fucking point you fucking dopes

Okay, I’ve heard all the criticisms. I agree now that my plan to create a Jonestown on Mars was foolish and dangerous. I will instead be building a much more achievable Jonestown on the Moon

The answer is that oligarchs wouldn't exist without governments giving them privileges/monopolies, under "real capitalism" they'd be competed out of existence

Yeah, Gillis is great on this. "Indigenous knowledge has insights into places where Western science has blindspots", yeah, 100%. "Indigenous knowledge is science", quite often it is. "Indigenous knowledge is better than science" - fuck off.

Communists did; the New Left didn't; the two got irretrievably confused in the 70s
February 10, 2026 at 1:43 AM
This... is wrong. Lysenkoism was pseudoscience but it was a pseudoscience that was supposed to massively *increase* production over Western genetic science
February 10, 2026 at 1:43 AM
Both reaction/fascism and Left-wing primitivism look at the contradiction Marx pointed out between the massive potential opened up by a global industrial economy, and the horrors of capitalist social relations, and decide that the whole thing was a wash, back to the Middle Ages
I have immense respect for indigenous cultures. However, it is deeply impractical to feed 8+ billion people sustainably and reliably without high-tech industrial agriculture.

Ultimately, this is just reactionary, conservative pastoralism wrapped in leftist framing.

That's the kind of special pleading which can invalidate any independence movement. Why wouldn't Canada just become 10 US states, that'll make it safe from invasion etc.
February 10, 2026 at 1:18 AM
As far as I know, always has been?
it's funny how Canadian nationalism is Liberal/NDP coded
📊Angus Reid Institute: "If a referendum was held on Alberta separation, would you vote for Alberta to leave Canada and become its own independent country or stay in Canada?"

All respondents:
🔴65% Stay
🔵30% Leave

CPC voters:
🔵49% Leave
🔴45% Stay

Yeah, I think Streeting actually hates trans folk and wants them to die, as opposed to Starmer who doesn't care if they live or die

I've only heard about what Will's said now and it totally supports my decision not to follow him
February 10, 2026 at 12:25 AM
I have seen this expressed, apparently unironically, as "we need to care more about teenage boys than teenage girls because teenage girls aren't going to shoot up the school"

Sheer defeatism
The “don’t give the abusive and extremely alcoholic husband a reason to beat you” mentality is only normalized when it comes to One side today, and that’s just a fact

I just had the horrible feeling that there are probably Israelis who pay to go sniping in the occupied West Bank, on the model of what happened in Sarajevo
February 10, 2026 at 12:13 AM
On the model of "if being hard on yourself worked, it would have worked by now":

If dooming helped us win, we would have won already
But Miiiicah, if we acknowledge a win for longer than it takes to read the numbers, we will become complacent, despite years of constant losses! Clearly the only thing that can save us is the Bluesky equivalent of that guy whispering in Caesar’s ear about how we’re gonna die!
