Incidentally this makes a lot of ultra leftists quite angry— they think DSA's primary function is funneling people and resources into the Democratic Party where they are moderated gradually into nothing. The thing is that there is no such thing as the party and that's not what drives moderation.

I think the root of this is a misconception that the Constitution is the final arbiter of democracy/right and wrong. Like, if Trump could find a way *under the Constitution* to become King, then that would be it and liberalism would have to surrender. Many libs agree with John Eastman on this.

That's the kind of special pleading which can invalidate any independence movement. Why wouldn't Canada just become 10 US states, that'll make it safe from invasion etc.
