Another example of the policing culture at Rampart, they posted this quote that likens police to “hired fists, batons, and guns.”

Context:

Rampart was (is?) the infamous core of corruption + abuse that led to ~$125 million in payouts

LAPD just got the green light to burn $190k a year on a Hollywood tested media messaging “guru”

LA is furloughing civil servants & closing day care centers while cops play on Facebook
LAPD’s Rampart Division’s (the one know for CRASH) social media posts are often cruel and unfunny. Like this one that features people handcuffed for a photo-op about the department’s jail. These points are more for themselves and other cops than the community.

Two female ICE agents popped the hood of their car and knocked on the door of a mechanic born in Mexico. He went out to help.

ICE drawdown? Indications point to steady enforcement activity outside the Twin Cities
Some people who observe ICE activity are skeptical about a large scale drawdown of agents in the state. There are indications that activity has decreased in the Twin Cities, but has continued outside ...

I asked the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a public records request for its automatic license plate reader data and search audits, but they’re refusing to release them. It may take a lawsuit for them to cough it up.

Good coverage of how even small towns are coming out in huge numbers to fight data centers. This time in DeForest, Wisconsin. @derekseidman.bsky.social reports (and provides an explainer of private equity's role in the whole mess, too).

The purpose of the system (policing) is what it does.
EXCLUSIVE: ICE officials knew use of force was rising well before the Minneapolis shootings.

Internal agency emails show a surge in reports of ICE officers using more force going back nearly a year, but DHS leadership didn't see it as a concern to be addressed.

Our communities are not safer with an LAPD that chooses to not enforce a mask ban but encourages arresting the parents of students who protest against ICE.
The LAPD is citing truancy laws in an attempt to squash the ongoing school walkouts against ICE. The LAPD is also threatening to arrest any parents or adults who support the kids in their acts of civil disobedience.

Growing up, there was one politician my dad hated more than anyone and it was Jesse Jackson. He’d always complain about him and Al Sharpton as these scary radical Black leaders who wanted to rid the world of white people. That type of political upbringing takes a lot of work to shake, glad I did it.

Writing is thinking.

It's not some marginal boring task you can skip. It's the heart of it.
It’s easy to think writing is mainly the transcription of ideas you already have—that is, until you try to write something worthwhile, and you find what you thought were saying transform into something far more interesting in the process. This skips that last step, and that is *not* an improvement.
“We plan to hire an AI rewrite specialist to ingest the reporting by Hannah and others and use AI to convert it into stories.”

The editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer said it will use AI to ‘write’ its articles.

Police lie. All the time. In paperwork. To prosecutors. To the media. On the stand while testifying under oath. And even when in the very rare case their lies are exposed, they get to keep lying with few if any consequences. This pattern isn’t just limited to ICE.

Beside the point, but Andy is a terrible writer. School students??? How many adjectives does a school walkout need?
And now it's on Andy Ngo's radar. The MAGA rage bait o' sphere on xitter has been particularly worked up abt the student walkouts. When Andy & his ilk have focused the patriot's eye of sauron on activities by minors in the past it has driven threats on the kids & their schools.
