Hey @klobuchar.senate.gov @smith.senate.gov @governorwalz.mn.gov this is the minimum. Anything that doesn’t accomplish this is unacceptable. ACT LIKE A LEADER.
I will not support any funding deal that puts money in the hands of Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and this violent agency. Defund and abolish ICE now.

So what's happening here is that Walz is likely negotiating a deal where ICE would be allow access to our justice system to detain supposed undocumented people accused of crimes. Note the "accused." ICE is grabbing people from *pre-trial* hearings, so people who have not had their day in court.
These assholes look like the psychotically violent henchmen in a mediocre movie

STP council/mayor focusing on things like “face masks striking fear”, lets make them illegal. Instead of “literal abduction cause fear; what can we do to actually help”. So frustrating they are choosing ableism at this time.
The gap between the Minneapolis and St. Paul city councils during all this has been really, uh, something. It's a bit apples and oranges, I know, but in terms of sheer visibility and effective messaging, it's just really striking.
I’m excited to announce that my colleagues and I are proposing a $5 million program meant to support small businesses impacted by “Operation Metro Surge” in Minneapolis. 1/

Living in Minnesota right now feels like being in the emergency room. Literally everyone is suffering in different ways, even if it's "just" a badly twisted ankle rather than a kidney stone or a full-on heart attack. The staff are working as hard as they can but energy and resources are dwindling.

Just a reminder that in MN, the Walz admin put optum ai in charge of deciding whether Medicaid and related payment requests were fraudulent.

It aint just republicans.

I suppose I also take this personally bc attacks on craftivism land poorly with me as a Native person. Beading together, making regalia, sewing in groups — this is at the heart of how the women on my reservation gather to do healing work, political ed, and mutual aid. This has long been true.

Dispatches from MN: ICE is still here, kidnapping neighbors multiple times a day. There are so few gov attorneys and so many ICE-related rights violations that a sizable chunk of the courts have basically gotten stuck. ICE ignores court orders to release detainees or says they can't find them.

So the entire reason they're trying to deport ANYONE/EVERYONE

is because they've set quotas.

These quotas are based on the lies they've told, that there are 'millions' of undocumented people ('illegal aliens')...you know the ones the DNC bring in on magic busses to steal votes.

So yeah.
The government says the people being deported are violent criminals, and they treat them inhumanely. But mostly they are subjecting ordinary people to extraordinary punishments.

if you’re gonna watch Bad Bunny and feel outraged about the state of things, you have to remember that in 2017, Trump presided over the deaths of 3000+ Puerto Ricans (probably more like 4K).

and if the collective amnesia is a trauma for the diaspora, it is even worse on la isla.

& I'm doing various things that require my attention (& caution).

You can take time off, but you're still aware.🧵

They call it “persistent presence” and it’s a technique of war they have used in other parts of the world, notoriously in Somalia, which gives a new dimension to the cruelty of doing this to cities full of Somali refugees

In some cases they’re literally using the same Black Hawks even
You may ask yourself why helicopters fly over the Twin Cities so much and my best guess is it is to fuck with people.
Ugh. Looked up for a second only to see this guy buzz by my window.

the tools of good nonprofit and foundation governance make it harder to actually help people because fuck what if you accidentally help the wrong person?

what if you accidentally give a single mom $300 more than her rent is? oh no

I am so disappointed that this is seen as where we should spend our effort. ‘Masks’ is a very broad term; and people should be using them! Covid still exists! The flu still exists! Legislating “masks” is so ableist and is focused on the effects rather than the cause. Medical masks are great.

if your representation sucks, now is the time to run (or help run) that no-chance primary campaign against your shitty elected democrat. you might feel like you have no chance now, but shit’s gonna go down in a LOT of primaries, and many incumbents will be caught off guard. go for it.
Lifelong Democrat and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we need a Tea Party-style takeover of the party. People forget that the "Democratic Party" isn't just the folks holding office, it's the people who elected them that are the party. The folks in Congress seem to have forgotten that.

Everyone should be allowed to wear masks (even ICE assholes), but ICE assholes and CPD should all have to wear prominent identifying information not just agency but who the fuck they are. Their name & badge # or eqivalent should be easy to see.

(The fixation on masks is annoying me.)

When I get back from the airport (I’m there now documenting an ICE flight that’s about to load), I’ll continue getting those Air Wisconsin flights added to our local list.

Tip of the hat to @iceflightmonitor.bsky.social and all the other data geeks sharing notes behind the scenes.
Yesterday, we identified and confirmed a new charter airline that has begun operating for ICE. Air Wisconsin currently has 8 active planes conducting ICE routes. Together, they conducted ~60 domestic transfer flights in January, some of which included flights out of Minneapolis.

There’s no compromise.

There’s only one way to rein in ICE’s terror campaign. Abolish it.
