I've ranted about LLM "AI" elsewhere, and in replies, but to reiterate it in a thread that I can pin now:

One of the fundamentals of computer science is "Garbage In, Garbage Out". I learned this as a child, learning to program, over 40 years ago.

You cannot put bad data in, and get good data out.

However, if you let your PlayStation Plus subscription expire, it will change the external logos to read "TESLA", and motor sound will be Elon Musk droning on Joe Rogan.
Sony’s upcoming Afeela 1 car will let you drive with Astro Bot or God of War theming, it's revealed.

These themes will include “Custom wallpapers and e-motor sounds” from the games.

Everyone claims the US is a 'pariah' now that Trump is in power and not bothering with the white hood for empire anymore, and yet the rest of the world' governments seem to be lining up to bend the knee to prop up their imperial supremacy.
This is just as significant as Maduro’s seizure. The inability of governments to collect tax from multinational companies is a key factor in the relative poverty of the Global South. Trump’s USA has gained extraordinary exemption from a scheme to mitigate it.

I was Jokerfied for website usability back in the days when "web designer" was still a job title, and a back-end dev looked me in the eye and told me that since he could use it, the (time-poor!) end users would just have to learn how to do it.
When a user says: "This is hard to use" your reply should never be "It took me 3 months to build that because library A and library B are so tough to use for reason X and reason Y"

It doesn't matter that it's hard. That's the work! That's the effort!!

Instead: Listen, and look at what can be done.

I'll never understand how working class "gender critical" activists, who are struggling to get by due to a deliberate widening of the gap between the wealthy and the poor, have been convinced that a billionaire smugly smoking a cigar on a superyacht has a keen interest in making their lives better.

I wrote section 230 to protect user speech, not a company's own speech. I've long said AI chatbot outputs are not protected by 230 and that it is not a close call. Given that the Trump administration is going to the mat to protect pedophiles, states should step in to hold Musk and X accountable.
I am not a Section 230 expert but being that Twitter is creating and publishing these photos I wonder if they actually have any civil legal protection? @kenwhite.bsky.social ? @akivamcohen.bsky.social ?
What X is allowing Grok to do is unlawful or regulatory-illegal in multiple jurisdictions, creates clear DSA violations, and continues despite regulator scrutiny. The images do not need to be pornographic, non-consensual sexualised or intimate depictions are enough.

The time I tried to kickstart a mini bike pushing the kickstarter down with my hand and ripped a hole in the back of my pinky?

The time I nearly removed the entire pad of the same pinky finger cutting a bread roll in half in my hand?

Melting solder into a puddle that rolled off onto my bare leg?
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

One guy tried, unsuccessfully, to blow up a plane with a bomb in his sneakers, and everybody had to take off their shoes at the airport for the next 20 years.

Chatbots have a collective body count equal to Richard "The Night Stalker" Ramirez, and they're trying to put them in schools.
30 years ago they were like we have to ban song lyrics for the children but it’s full steam ahead for the here’s how to do drugs until you die machine
“ChatGPT started coaching Sam on how to take drugs, recover from them and plan further binges. It gave him specific doses of illegal substances, and in one chat, it wrote, ‘Hell yes—let’s go full trippy mode’”

Grok is a NC porn & CSAM generator.
Copilot is a slop Blob absorbing everything Microsoft.
Gemini is a misinformation generator.

"He is a formidable, accomplished, genuinely decent, genuinely intelligent and visionary man"

Which is all it takes to make someone a target now. These things are fundamentally opposed by an increasing number of those in power.
Here's something I wrote about Tim Walz before he was seen as VP prospect. After speech that got unprompted standing ovation from 20,000 scientists from around the world

He is a formidable, accomplished, genuinely decent, genuinely intelligent and visionary man

Election Countdown, 99 Days to Go: Who Is Tim Walz?
A governor, a six-term Congressman, a National Guard artillery specialist, a school teacher for 20 years—and a geographer. A speech that will introduce you to him, and that contains surprises.

What the AI/robotics "abundance" boosters forget: We already live in a world of material abundance. What is scarce is not goods or productive capacity, but access, security, and bargaining power. AI does not solve that problem; it merely increases the surplus whose distribution is already unequal.

[reposting; I misinterpreted the OP]

This is spot on re why media outlets are being dazzled / treating responses as apologies etc. But imo the tech angle is not ultimately obscurant: Xai built community-choking data centres to enable ultra-fast abuse gen, journos need to understand that!
I think the AI angle of this is obscurant. It doesn’t matter that grok is “an AI” whatever you take that to mean. Suppose X hired a team of guys to photoshop the clothes off of women and children whenever anyone asks. That’s functionally identical what happening here. It’s not complicated.
A functional country would shut Grok down permanently. Like, immediately. Right now. Last week. Whatever. Just flip the switch. Obviously.
