This is a common pattern for abusers, but it isn't an excuse and shows how abusers get so much power, by coercing others into becoming complicit.

There's a netflix documentary about a man who abuses a young girl, and her parents find out and basically let it keep happening.

I'm worried that the broader public isn't really understanding the Epstein Files. The problem isn't that everyone in the files is a secret pedophile, it's that all the people are corresponding with him because they *don't care that he's a pedophile*. It's a story of elite impunity.
You can look at the Epstein files and conclude that only bad people have billions of dollars, but I think it’s also possible that having billions of dollars cauterizes your humanity

This interview with Wide Awake America was one of the best conversations I’ve had yet about ICE, fascism, and sexual violence as a core logic of the Trump administration.
Whistles, Witnesses, and the Power of Showing Up
From George Floyd’s murder to ICE raids in subzero streets, Minneapolis neighbors are teaching the country how sustained, neighbor‑driven resistance can thwart state violence.

There’s literally a straight line between Trump, Epstein, and the retaliatory lawsuits against women who came forward with allegations against celebrity men like Amber Heard and Blake Lively. They all even have the same PR folks. And yet people still refuse to see it

the end result of AI image, video, and audio generation is that society will no longer be able to rely on images or video or audio to represent reality. Children born today will never be able to assume that just because they have seen something on a screen that it is likely to be true.

Of course law enforcement wears masks. They have long not been accountable to "the people." They are their own super-class of people with special rules. It's a symptom; not a cause.

A lot of people are choosing to miss the point here which is not “Every problem is super easy to solve and democrats refuse to do it” but that when there *is* a simple solution they will insist it’s much more complicated and the simple solution is impossible.
Dem leadership: changing this is a difficult process, you fool. You rube. You utter infant. Give us between $5 and $50

You've probably heard by now that the Conservative Party convention voted to keep Pierre Poilievre on as their leader.

What you may not have heard about, however, is the *other* stuff the delegated voted on over the weekend.

Some of it is...predictable. But some of it is downright concerning:

a thing i think about a lot is that the median tech billionaire enjoys a level of privilege, wealth and comfort that even the most profligate medieval king could not have dreamt of, with absolutely none of the responsibilities that king would have had, while constantly demanding to be thanked for it
I was thinking about this over the weekend and I was finding myself drawn back to one line -

People like Jeff Bezos have been rewarded for their industry disruption by never having to worry about money ever again, and yet they also want the rest of the world to personally congratulate them for it.

Sometimes I get a really good quote in.

Btw, I think people should understand having a platform makes you a bigger target of the state. It adds a whole nother level of threat assessment when you’re otg organizing

People can take individual risks but it’s very harmful to suggest that people shouldn’t take opsec seriously. Its a collective
When someone without opsec argues against opsec, they're not necessarily doing it in bad faith. Their lives and livelihoods are completely different than these nurses and teachers who don't do what's right for the attention but rather at great risk to their financial stability.
Libs of TikTok has spent the days following Alex Pretti's murder doxxing teachers, nurses, and school board members — trying to get ordinary people fired for supporting Pretti or opposing ICE www.mediamatters.org/libs-tiktok/...

If you’re engaged in this work, you must know about the organizers and protest leaders in Ferguson that were killed after the uprising. Disregarding this history is dangerous. We must take the moment seriously!!
As someone radicalized by Ferguson in 2014, I remember how the Feds targeted organizers there.

If you are involved in this work, you must understand that you are a target of the state. This is what the government does.

A great article on why hating Stephen Harper shouldn't just be limited to Canadians, even if it only shows how it's happening up here.

He's one of the assholes linking together and leading the right-wing extremists of the world and coordinating with them to dismantle democracy on a global scale.

THIS! We’re talking about Liam because he was in the news and we know enough to be able to talk about him, but we also hope to use his story to help raise awareness of all 3800+ kids who have been detained by ICE during this presidential administration. They all deserve love, care, and liberty.
I think important to state for the record that Liam Ramos is a kiddo who is both a person and representative of every other kiddo who is at risk/detained no matter how old they are or how cute or small or "innocent" bc like some kids get into trouble. I got into trouble. we stand up for them all

right now “illegal” is anything a billionaire fascist doesn’t like. we need to learn to call that out as the bullshit it is.
I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.
