Other than Three Body Problem, anybody know of some scifi about distant civilizations that can communicate but can never directly interact due to not having FTL travel?

I need more sci-fi that's between The Expanse and Star Wars

How do you organize safely and effectively in the golden age of surveillance? I have some thoughts and Wired does too: www.wired.com/story/how-to...

You know, it really hadn’t occurred to me to frame Musk, Thiel and company this way, but yeah, our dystopia is their utopia.

wrt bluepoint, just given the state of AAA development today, whenever a studio closure like this happens i always think about the people who put 3 or 4 years of their lives into a project that never even got announced. what do you even put on your resume?

I truly don't think this (or any) industry can survive without a mechanism to fire people up the chain

so long as executives can fire thousands of workers, but workers can never fire executives, there will never be an incentive for management to not fuck up as quickly and destructively as possible
Recent Sony game studio acquisitions

- 2021: Nixxes
- 2021: Firesprite (layoffs in 2024)
- 2021: Bluepoint (closed in 2026)
- 2022: Valkyrie Entertainment
- 2022: Haven Studios
- 2022: Bungie (layoffs in 2024; new game soon)
- 2022: Neon Koi (closed in 2024)
- 2023: Firewalk (closed in 2024)
Roughly 70 employees will be impacted by the Bluepoint closure. Bluepoint was working on a God of War live-service game until it was canceled early last year. The studio then spent the last year pitching and trying to determine what it would do next. Full story: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

In the midst of the most aggressive and alarming federal assault on the First Amendment since the Palmer raids, the Biden-era free speech warriors have focused their outrage on . . . the injustice of releasing the Epstein files.

Trump may well be careening into a major war and the American corporate media coverage is credulous and feeble when it should be vigorously alerting the public to the dangers, the lack of any reasoned argument, and the imperative for Congressional authorization.

Reporters should be asking Trump officials some essential questions, and calling attention to the lack of answers.

DOOCY: On Prince Andrew, do you think American associates of Jeffrey Epstein will wind up in handcuffs too?

TRUMP: I'm the expert in a way because I've been totally exonerated. That's very nice. I can actually speak about it very nicely. I think it's a shame. I did nothing.

Its an anti-meritocracy
I wish that once, one time, the people responsible for miscalculating business so badly were held accountable for their failures. It's always the laborers who suffer while the most highly paid mistake-makers maintain positions of power. And they're likely to just continue that kind of destruction

I received notification of yet another death at an ICE facility, meaning 38 people have died in custody since Trump returned to office.

ICE is failing to ensure the health and safety of the people it is responsible for.

We need immediate oversight of this entire operation.
