Idahoans showed up at the statehouse today in defense of our First Amendment rights.

HB 561, a bill to ban Pride flags on government property, is yet another attempt by Idaho lawmakers to censor free speech and attack the LGBTQ+ community.

A ship of Theseus where the words "I experienced consequence for using my position to spread racism" are slowly replaced one by one until it's something completely unrecognizable and, somehow, fit to publish. He also, not worth mentioning in headline, attacked CRT. Dozens of articles, "canceled."

Things are only going to get weirder (and not just here) as the empires continue to crumble. Escalating disinformation's only going to accelerate it.

Yet another reason why community and direct connection are so essential. They ground in what's actually real, what in the end outlasts every empire.

The additional new budget cuts that the Legislature’s budget committee approved Friday could mean at least an $800,000 cut to treatment court programs. During FY 2025, 636 people graduated from the court programs and 87 treatment court participants gave birth to drug-free babies. #idleg #idpol

Idaho did earn the awful reputation that it has, it's a lot like Texas in that way. Real bad history and a lot of bad present, no interest in covering for that or denying it. What a lot of people in Boise, like Austin in TX, are interested in is fighting it. Boise is a good place because we fight.
Fully acknowledging that Idaho has problems with white supremacy and that Boise is too white. The lived experience of marginalized folks in Boise does include more bigotry than in states that aren't so deep red, surely.

Boise, however, fights bigotry every goddamn time. It's Nazis fuck off here.

quite a quote to give the paper of record about a raid in your town (especially when it’s easily disproven by wall-to-wall local news coverage in English and Spanish)

"We’re being dehumanized and there’s nothing we can really do about it because we’re high schoolers... Not only are our parents being hunted, taken and kidnapped, but it’s also our little siblings being used as bait and then being taken."

for my latest @us.theguardian.com talked to teens leading and joining anti-ICE walkouts from TX to MD to WI.

one NYC teen: "I feel scared [of ICE] every day... But I’m not going to let that stop me, because bravery is just the positive way to say you’re scared, and I’d rather be brave than scared."
