this is the thing every one of the 8 are taking huge amounts of heat and yet none of their offices have leaked "oh Schumer totally gave us a pass, please be mad at him not me!" because he didn't, because sometimes you just can't force Senators to do what you want.

A good way to do this is also to get a few of your friends together and take over your local Democratic Party! This involves going to a lot of boring meetings but it's *very* possible to do in a lot of the country.

If folks want to build a stronger Democratic party the simple fact is the only way you can do that is voting in more Democrats.
Maybe those are primary challengers that match your views better. Maybe it's "anyone as long as they're a Dem." When it comes time for elections there is no substitute.

I gotta say the evidence that Schumer is secretly controlling the cave caucus is some real thin gruel. It basically rests on the assumption of a level of Senate partisan discipline normally seen in a parliamentary democracy when it isn't just leaning on even grosser "perfidious jew" tropes.

every single week they're throwing this guy a special oval office love-in that appears to be the presidential equivalent of letting your dog scarf an entire big mac and fries before that last trip to the vet
Pirro: "Mr President, there is in this room a group of people who love you, who believe in you, and who are so proud to be in this Oval Office and to be part of this amazing day because you have changed the course of America."

This is deliberate terror meant to make life unlivable – and it must stop.

2. First, they in my experience genuinely are surprised to find any pro-Israel or Zionist people in the wild in any non-right-wing space. They do activism in spaces that gatekeep away anyone who, say, supports two states, so they overestimate pro-Palestine support even on the center-left.

1. To add to this (and please don't brigade the person upthread that this responds to): in the 2024 exit polls, American voters split evenly three-way between thinking US support for Israel is too much, too little, or just right. Pro-Palestine activists often get this wrong, for several reasons. 🧵
AIPAC isn't even the primary reason Israel keeps getting US weapons & aid.

This is probably the biggest dissonance Bluesky users have about politics. We want our party, our faction(s) to always be strong and look strong and have that strength be acknowledged, but this can only be achieved through constantly humiliating and crushing every other party and faction.
It looks pathetic to us, but part of being a politician is being willing to look pathetic sometimes.

On Intermarriage and Judaism
I keep reading that marriage within Judaism promotes Jewish children growing into observant adults more effectively then intermarriage, and I am skeptical. I think marrying into a healthy and supportive relationship promotes Jewish kids growing into observant adults.

Folks really do need to understand that there may have been multiple ways to lose this one but there wasn't really a way to win it, because truly winning went off the table until at least 2026 in 2024.

The RIFs language is actually great. Not only does it rehire the people RIFed during the shutdown, it makes it an unequivocal Antideficiency Act violation to do ANY MORE RIFs through the duration of the CR (Jan 30)
Completely stops Trump/Vought Phase 2 for now

anyone who is not willing to take the risk of gambling with starvation in order to save our system of government has no place in the Senate, and those who decided that they couldn't play a game with those stakes have not necessarily done anything wrong. they just have to leave.

No. No, no, no. This is Trump's shutdown no matter when or how it ends. Without his foolishness we could have avoided all of this.
i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Ok in all seriousness why are you trusting literally anything Donald Trump is saying?
Donald Trump is not your president in the way even Bush was your president. Donald Trump is an enemy leader and everything he says is enemy propaganda designed to crush your spirits and incite mutiny & despair.
