the DARE program is apparently super protective of its materials so it's surprisingly hard to find a PDF of current ones, but here's 500 pages of DARE content from 1991: archive.org/details/proj...

Just because I keep seeing those "I checked this piece and it's written by AI" - this is an old article of mine, before AI was available. So could we not?

This new story is a product of the best writing prompt I ever read: "Write about monsters in the style of John Steinbeck." I chose to mash up a famous Steinbeck book with a classic H.P. Lovecraft tale.

Declaring years in advance that you have no standards and will vote for literally anyone who opposes Trump (which is any Democratic candidate) is abdicating the tiny amount of power you have to sway policy agenda and telling the establishment it knows best.

i think you really can't go wrong with using consent as a first principle of "is this ethical?" yes, there are further complexities and edge cases (a person can "consent" under non-obvious duress, there are cases where it's necessary to perform medical procedures on an unconscious person, etc) BUT

{which is why AI-made 'art' IS CSEM, because it uses images of real actual human beings as its base material and so causes harm to real actual human beings.
Paying your fav deviantart artist to make a digital drawing of your OC doing ageplay = fine whatever
Entering ageplay prompts into AI = DIAF)

I'm following with interest the case of a fiction writer being criminalised for writing words in Australia and I do wonder whether white smut writers who prop up AO3 will speak up in her defense. (As they fucking well should, to be clear.)

When I first transitioned, I would drive a mile to a public gender neutral bathroom rather than use one at work. I found out later a dozen staff held “meetings” about what they would do if I used the women’s room. I was their boss’s boss at the time, still had no recourse, just had to let it happen.
The BBC reporting on Beth Upton’s current employment situation is definitely not in the public interest, and it is insane how much the British press freely get away with harassing her for the crime of simply living her life existing as a trans person in the UK.

A less transphobic press might start asking "How does driving a doctor out of Scotland help cut NHS wait times? Why is Scotland better with fewer doctors? Which other minority staff would you get rid of?"
Every single person involved in this hate campaign and everyone who has supported them - Anas Sarwar, for example - needs to be run out of public life the way they've run Dr Upton out the NHS. Being trans isn't a risk factor for people around you; this obsessive hate absolutely is.
Susan Smith of For Women Scotland is quoted in this piece saying that Dr Upton leaving the NHS will be "a relief to female patients."

The employment tribunal found that Upton had done nothing wrong! She was completely innocent of any kind of harassment!

Jaywalking in the United States is a made up "crime" that was literally a psyop campaign....

funded by automakers

because their cars were killing pedestrians

So they turned it back around on the victims. "Jay" was a negative slang at the time for someone who was a gullible rural person.
I'm not especially opposed to driverless cabs, but I'm fucked if I'm giving up my ancestral British right to cross the road anywhere if it's safe for me to do so. "Jaywalking" isn't a thing or a crime here, techbros, so your magic cars will have to learn to deal with that.
Politics London discussing driverless taxis casually referring to “jaywalking pedestrians”.

Jaywalking is not a thing in UK law.

Transport for London and Government had better not be asleep at the wheel on this.

I just double-checked the charts and this route is definitely iceberg free. But even if it wasn't, remember that the Titanic isn't just a boat; it's a modern, unsinkable cruise ship.
