If all this sounds good to you, I am planning to have a public playtest kit for Pax Deorum available this year! I am very excited about it!
The game ran beautifully, allowing space for playing scenes among characters as well as increasing pressure with the dice rolls filling the clocks, and our increasingly helpless attempts to keep things under control.
We played for 3.5 hours, ending up with such an interesting conclusion...

The second game on 12/31 was a blind playtest of "Pax Deorum" by @jenkatwrites.bsky.social - a gmless storytelling game full of clocks set among Vestal virgins in Ancient Rome.
I tried the game at Metatopia and then asked Jen to have the materials, and we tried it with maximum player count, 6.

I'm brainstorming an RPG thing that I think might be asymmetrical in terms of WHEN players are active in the game, like everyone does the same amount of stuff, has the same amount of say over what goes on, has equivalent roles etc...

I'm like a third of the way through Clash of Kings and I am forced to admit that having THREE major point of view characters wandering around in assorted wildernesses at the same time (Arya in the Riverlands, Jon north of the Wall, Daenerys in the Red Waste) makes it feel a lot weaker than Thrones

I'm like a third of the way through Clash of Kings and I am forced to admit that having THREE major point of view characters wandering around in assorted wildernesses at the same time (Arya in the Riverlands, Jon north of the Wall, Daenerys in the Red Waste) makes it feel a lot weaker than Thrones
movie backlog January begins again! movies I should have watched ages ago! today's is: When Harry Met Sally! considering becoming obsessed with Meg Ryan already tbh.
every January I try to clear out my watchlist a little bit and watch a bunch of movies I should have watched ages ago (my extremely arbitrary rule is that the movies should be at least 10 years old), because it's January and it's cold and it's dark and I just wanna lay in bed and watch movies

My dad gave me one of his extra albuterol inhalers (which I have previously been prescribed by my doctor but haven’t needed in 10 years so I lost it 💀) and boy that’s fucking night and day, that’s the real shit, that’s MEDICINE, that’s the good drugs, a nice simple rescue inhaler
I kinda thought bronchitis was something they would give you lots and lots of drugs for but it seems that’s not the case! It’s more of a “rest and fluids” type of thing and that’s unfortunate! Rest and fluids are only helping so much; I want drugs!

So at 4, sun still up, power company sent 5 guys to look at the broken utility pole in our backyard (because it’s not ENOUGH to be sick, we also have to deal with weather-related power problems). They looked at it for 10 min and left. Now at 7, fully dark out, another 3 guys are back to look again

GRRM is terrible at writing children, that’s why so many of his characters are weirdly young and talk like they’re twice their age, because he just… doesn’t understand how children ARE, but sometimes Rickon is very funny

Oh for sure when I was dismissive of the Oxfordian hypothesis of Shakespearean authorship, and indeed every “alternative theory” of who REALLY wrote Shakespeare’s plays (because the truth is that William Shakespeare did)

Very funny to look up some of the houses that are big important players in the prequels to see what they’re up to in the “modern” timeline of the main books. The Velaryons are basically extinct. The Strongs ARE extinct except some exiles. The Blackfyres died out ignominiously in Tyrosh.

In the show, Daenerys speaks “””Common””” with the same kind of posh English accent as the rich southern houses of Westeros, like the Tyrells and the Lannisters, but that doesn’t make any sense. In the book, a merchant notes her accent as Tyroshi, and she grew up all over the Free Cities
