Probably my first impression of Harakiri should not be “wow there are some beautiful fabrics in this movie”, but there are

why did I ever complain about emails when the real enemy is teams instant messages

Trailer has Northman vibes, fuck it, why not
I'm sorry if the only version of Robin Hood you're familiar with is the Howard Pyle version written for Victorian children - I also like the fun and lighthearted swashbuckling goodboy Robins! - but there is a long and rich history of the character being very much not that! this is not new!

while I'm being annoying, I would like to be applauded for my restraint in not replying to correct a stranger when she said that one of the masquerade ball costumes in the new season of Bridgerton is Zorro (because Zorro was invented like a hundred years after Bridgerton is set)

I actually have to confess that I kind of love the very bad 2018 Robin Hood. it's bad, but it commits to the bad vision entirely. it's like Riverdale. I think it's INCREDIBLY funny that they do an ENTIRE Dark Knight Two-Face storyline with Will Scarlet becoming the Sheriff of Nottingham. outrageous
if you want to be mad about an edgy modern take on robin hood, you want the 2018 version, which is a complete retelling of the dark knight and they film the crusades flashback sequences like it's the hurt locker, everybody in medieval flak jackets and holding their longbows like M16s

Not convinced I have any actual organs inside my rib cage anymore. Might just be a big cavity full of mucus. I might be 80% mucus by body weight.

Ever After is not my favorite movie version of the Cinderella story, but I do really like that, in lieu of actual magic, they have Leonardo da Vinci play the fairy godmother role. That's fun, I think he'd appreciate that tbh

continuing work on Before the Season Ends, and one of the things for this game is a big ol pile of NPCs to populate the events with, and I am giving each of them a section of like, common knowledge that anybody would know about them, and some SECRETS and RUMORS that have to be fished for, of course

I was eavesdropping on a conversation at the coffee shop that REALLY sounded like it was about vasectomies but it was actually about LASIK and boy there's some wires you sure don't wanna get crossed

was asked what I was looking forward to in 2026 and I don't think I have anything big, I certainly don't have anything planned. so I'm going to be Hirayama-maxxing. I'm going to take pictures of trees. I'm going to appreciate my books and music. I'm going to think warmly of small social connections.

I have a bad habit of hanging onto game detritus (index cards, scraps of paper, you know) and letting it pile up in corners and drawers and pockets until it surfaces again; anyway I just found a random index card on my bedroom floor that just says “EVERYONE HAS A SECRET” written on it

I finally caved and listened to a couple Geese songs for the first time this morning (as part of a friend's best of 2025 list) and I just.... no thank you. I don't need to be hearing all that.

I'm always thinking about Brienne of Tarth actually

So I started Fellowship of the Ring as my bedtime reading a few nights ago, and man that’s the real deal

put up a statue of the albuterol inventor next to the statue I have already decreed for the vicks vaporub guy
My dad gave me one of his extra albuterol inhalers (which I have previously been prescribed by my doctor but haven’t needed in 10 years so I lost it 💀) and boy that’s fucking night and day, that’s the real shit, that’s MEDICINE, that’s the good drugs, a nice simple rescue inhaler
I kinda thought bronchitis was something they would give you lots and lots of drugs for but it seems that’s not the case! It’s more of a “rest and fluids” type of thing and that’s unfortunate! Rest and fluids are only helping so much; I want drugs!

For what it’s worth, this work was for Champions of the Crystal Crown, which two months ago I was sure would crash and burn and amount to nothing, but now is turning into a pretty neat little game imo. I have another playtest at the end of the month and I think it’s come a long way!
begrudgingly did some quite good design work. felt stupid about it. but I did it

all this talk about what is and isn't noir, what does and doesn't count. noir is when the city of los angeles is evil. technically real life is a film noir

there's a bunch of letterboxd reviews on His Girl Friday that have the audacity to say "they talk too fast" and that is how you know we are all surrounded by vulgarians and boors every single day

the movie My Dinner With Andre was made to console most of us for the fact that we can't just hang out with Wallace Shawn whenever we want

pleased to report that in a little over a week of running a humidifier in my bedroom nonstop, I have only tripped over it and spilled like a gallon of water everywhere one single time
January 3, 2026 at 8:17 PM
yeah yeah yeah I know the whole thing about "keep making art, your art matters" etc I KNOW but it's hard not to look at my whole notebook of plans this morning like "ohhhhhh. this is stupid bullshit"

Humbly suggesting that the problem with the horrific act of war isn’t that congress didn’t get to sign off on the right paperwork first and it would still be a horrifying and unacceptable act of war even if they had

The version of Casablanca on HBO max has the Turner Classic Movies intro with Ben Mankiewicz attached, which I think is nice

If all this sounds good to you, I am planning to have a public playtest kit for Pax Deorum available this year! I am very excited about it!
The game ran beautifully, allowing space for playing scenes among characters as well as increasing pressure with the dice rolls filling the clocks, and our increasingly helpless attempts to keep things under control.

We played for 3.5 hours, ending up with such an interesting conclusion...
