Saw @mrholness.bsky.social Garth Marenghi’s show today — I had a spare copy of SIXTEEN HORSES in my car and nervously gave it to him during his signing of THIS BURSTED EARTH. My wife kept taking photos and caught the exact moment of my surprise when I was asked to sign his copy of my book in turn 😱❤️

If you are a novelist and want to see a terrifying Halloween Horror Movie, watch American Fiction (2023).
(So so good, though the first half is a 10/10, the third quarter is a 7/10, and the final quarter is a 3/10 cautionary tale for those writing metafiction -- but really good when it's good)

GOOD BOY (2025)
This morning my ChatGPT quota was inexplicably exhausted.
It took a while but I pieced it together. Voice mode somehow got activated when I went to bed.
The bot then engaged in a 10 hour conversation with my snoring dog, answering questions the pup wasn’t asking and praising him for his insight.

Do any of you follow any serialised prose novels online, or play any indie narrative games that release chapters over time? Interested in chatting if so!

I have not looked at this yet but I am constantly astounded by the Aesthetic of indie ttrpg covers. I would kill for trad pubbed novels to have this approach!

Any Stargate fans in the house? I've gotten increasingly into it over the past year -- I was a big fan when I was younger but never finished it all, and am now halfway through Atlantis. So much fun. I'd love a Mass Effect or Citizen Sleeper type game in this universe

The Docs Who Lift podcast makes a really good point about this: either obesity is a health issue or it isn’t. The same people who “deeply care” about the health risks of obesity will act like those taking medicine for it are “cheating”, when beyond even obesity, the medicine is practically panacea
These drugs are transformative for many people and the judginess is exhausting. It’s fine for people to take medication to make them healthier! It’s also fine if they’re taking it because they’d prefer to be slimmer! That’s their business!
When judgy people like to judge Ozempic users, I always cite my pal James who was *not well* and now is. (Also he thinks he looks hot, no question) www.thetimes.com/life-style/h...

I agree with the ethos of this but I really like “consume” for reasons different to “consumer” — to ingest, to make part of yourself. It especially explains the pseudo revulsion of horror with that kind of abject, could-eat-but-will-it-harm-me quality
Gonna go even further: don't refer to it as "consuming media" when doing this. You aren't a consumer - it's not a product. You read books. You look at art. You watch movies and/or videos. Be careful about word choice.
Reject "consume" and REJECT "CONTENT."
IT IS ART.
YOU ARE ENGAGING WITH ART.

I'm being so real right now, learn how to engage in media as art and not a reflection of your own real life morals. consume things that make you uncomfortable and understand why it makes you uncomfortable. Don't just base yours and others morals standings on the media you consume.
