So, here's the problem I have with all this outrage over Trump's comments about Khashoggi: it feels performative. Liberals who are mad at Trump over his comments spent a lot of time justifying Biden's meeting with the same murderer making realpolitik excuses that were identical to "things happen."

this is a recurring theme I've seen. people think LLMs reduce the need for understanding of things and act like it. but every successful use I've seen has as a prerequisite a demonstrable and generally deeper understanding of the topic and objective

And then they've wound up here anyway! Trying to actually govern, do things that might be unpopular now but have good consequences and so rebound to your favour in the long run, surely worth a shot. I think we lost some work because authors were afraid to show their weirdnesses, rough edges, to ask uncomfortable questions.
We can debate all day about who got cancelled and whether or not they deserved it, but one thing I have noticed is that a lot of queer YA written from ~2019-2022 has a kind of sterile after-school-special vibe where you can just tell they sanitized the fuck out of it to appease the Twitter hivemind
