Long story short, our dog apparently loves squash 🧡

For local folks, it's worth noting that it says "Members of Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia (Renters United for Justice), South Minneapolis Tenant Union, and tenants across Minneapolis and Saint Paul have launched the Twin Cities Tenant Union (TCTU)."
BREAKING: Tenants across Minneapolis and Saint Paul have just launched a Twin Cities tenant union, citing the fact that their cities are under siege, and saying they need to band together to protect one another.

This happened 3 blocks from my house on Tuesday.

Listen to this mother, and her horror at being separated from her husband.

The ask in the gofundme is a small one. I hope you’ll join me in contributing. Let’s bring her husband home.
I was present for this horrific scene this past Tuesday and would love to get as many eyes on this situation as we can. Anything you can give to help this family will go a long way. #abolishice ♥️

People keep talking about how decentralized the resistance is in MN, and yes there is no singular figure, committee, or group coordinating all things. That's very different than there being no structures (plural), groups (plural), or leaders (plural) keeping things going and building things further.

Not to get political, but America is very pretty and has a lot of nice folks making cool things, and I think if we had a president who wasn’t actively trying to murder us, we could have a pretty good time

I really want people to check in with the organizations that have been pushing back on surveillance for 10+ years.

Just to be blunt, there are a lot of folks who realized yesterday that surveillance is bad and many are suggesting well-intentioned but misguided strategies for fighting it

talk to us
“Agents can identify people on the street through facial recognition, trace their movements through license-plate readers and, in some cases, use commercially available phone-location data to reconstruct daily routines and associations.” All surveillance tools people have pushed back on for ages…
DHS ramps up surveillance in immigration raids, sweeping in citizens
The Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis is providing insights into the surveillance technologies the government is using in its mass deportation campaign.

Thousands of people filled the streets of downtown Minneapolis in protest of federal immigration enforcement for the second consecutive Friday.

some good news buried among the horrible behavior listed:

“The third woman said federal agents at her hotel are subsisting on microwavable bowls of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup, because it’s become so difficult for them to find restaurants willing to serve them.”
I visited hotels all over Minneapolis, went into back rooms & talked to the staff.

They're afraid.

One told me she resents how her undocumented coworkers spend their days cleaning the rooms of agents who are “hunting down their family members.”

Please continue to help this family! This will help their family reunite and will help groceries, rent, and more. It would mean a lot to the family who is going through a lot.
A father with a heart condition was kidnapped by ICE at McDonalds in MN. The family is asking for help with legal fees, bond requests, & rent assistance.

An ICE agent smirked at the son when he went to drop off the medicine for his father. We need to bring him back home ASAP.

It’s pretty fucking wild that the DOJ is releasing files that include accusations that the President of the United States raped underage girls, to distract from the fact that the DOJ is covering up murders of US citizens by their own government.

Arresting Black journalists is also vice signaling. Their base is racist and hates journalists and they want to get them excited again. The mainstream media industry has never protected Black journalists or journalists of color the way it should.

And SO MANY breweries/bars in MSP sprung into action. No strength in numbers for fear of MAGA wrath, no timid press releases about how fascism may be just a *smidge* bad for business. Just some social media posts that told ICE to eat shit, then quick pivots to whatever their neighborhoods needed:
Closures seems to have hit most everyone at some point, whether it’s weather, staffing, or the general strike against ICE. One positive is seeing several breweries speak up and become community hubs for collecting donations of funds, food, and household goods. They’ve done this work before.

This is a great read

It's heartening to see so many different ways we support each other

If you drink beer, consider checking out the places listed on the article - or any indie brewery in your neck of the woods
Brewery workers, bar owners, and union organizers in MSP are setting the mark on how to actually care for their community, rather than just invoke as a buzzword. At @vinepair.com, I reported how their work doubles as a playbook for colleagues nationwide whose homes may face MAGA sieges soon enough.

The Twin Cities' resistance extends far beyond the walls of its breweries & bars. But Hop Take is a beer column, and the trade isn't exempt from Trump's fascism. When feds storm other cities, industry members there must be ready. Heeding the hard-won wisdom of their MSP counterparts is a good start.

I would beseech the national media to stop writing sentences like one I just read that said basically "ICE's time in Minnesota is almost up." That is NOT an established fact. Please do not turn away. Please check the readily available information from people on the ground and local journalists.
From everything I’m hearing and reading, nothing in the ground in the Twin Cities has meaningfully changed.
