I'm genuinely gobsmacked by how much City staff dropped the ball on this one. Ignoring like five decades of public policy evidence in favour of whataboutist arguments that cement a status quo that kills more people every year.
@en.ottawa.ca staff’s thinking remains rooted in the bad old days—incidentally the same that produced #Ottawa’s unsustainable sprawl.

During the first two years of the First World War, around 40% of all bullet wounds to limbs required amputation to prevent dying from infection. Around a third of those amputees died of infection anyways.
In the later years of the war they got the amputee fatality rate down to around 10-15%.

I have to wonder whether the July 2026 timing of RTO4 is because OC Transpo doesn't expect to have a properly functioning train any earlier than that.
