1/2: It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Joel Habener and Richard Hynes, members of the HHMI Investigator community for more than 3 decades. Habener's discoveries helped transform the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and related conditions.

Unfortunately diabetes related but on a similar thing dropped 40 lbs (from what I thought of as a happy weight for me) and it's definitely helped. Your body just works easier.

At a point where I could really stand to bulk a bit in a healthy way if I wanted, which I never expected to get to.

Ultraprocessed foods make up more than half the calories consumed by most U.S. adults. Studies that track people’s diets over time increasingly link them with obesity and age-related chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

My mom dropped my dad off at the hospital for what we thought were routine tests related to his diabetes. 3 hours later, she gets a call from the CARDIOLOGY nurse that he is just finishing up with the SURGEON and she can come pick him up.

Triple bypass was scheduled for a week later. PARENTS.

The reality is that weight (BMI) is not a good measure of health. If you look at obesity related illnesses (diabetes for example) is in what you would expect based on the income-obesity trend.

In diabetes insipidus, the body doesn’t make enough vasopressin, causing excessive thirst and urination.

The ME/CFS patients here showed a similar pattern.

Yeah my wife and child (STILL?!) mask.

A mild COVID infection broke my metabolism in 2022—I crash for weeks if I spend ANY energy. I ran marathons—I can’t even run errands. Can’t work, can’t play; just rot away.

Why me? We have no clue. So yeah, Jon, I am #OneOfTheTwo

Why the fuck aren’t you?
