We've lost funding because of our principled opposition to KOSA and other censorship bills.

We've lost funding because of our solidarity with Palestine and opposition to tech-enabled genocide.

We've lost funding because foundations are scared of Trump.

And now someone has uploaded a version that wasn't filmed off a TV.

There's also the torrent link there, which is probably the fastest way to download the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT if you want to save the file locally to your computer.

I somehow missed that Dan Savage was on Bluesky now. If you missed the memo, consider this your reminder that Dan Savage is a racist transphobe who has allied himself with Jesse Singal (!) and written racist screeds attacking Black people while dismissing the racism of white gays.

The thing about this is that there are some otherwise reasonable people out there who had not yet figured out that Bari Weiss is a tool of the Trump administration and this is, uh, gonna be a pretty big signal
Per NY Times’s Michael Grynbaum on X, this is Sharyn Alfonsi’s email to her “60 Minutes” colleagues in full:

there's a commentary about LLMs to be made here, but I'm too tired at the moment to explicate
One of the reasons people take dementia tests is that you retain verbal acuity and capacity longer than critical reasoning, on average by about 3-6 years, so there are people who are effectively just not capable of processing information and reacting who sound completely fine if you talk to them.

And if you read a second thing, let it be this about the ProPublica Guild (workers' union) fighting to keep the quality of its journalism high during negotiations, against management's attempts to open the floodgates for AI slop.

There were Democrats voting for this shit, please stop complaining when we complain about Democrats and want them held accountable. This is getting ridiculous, the fucking collaborators.
BREAKING: The House of Representatives just passed a bill that would subject immigrant children to invasive bodily searches and keep them in detention instead of releasing them to their families.

The Senate must vote no on this horrific bill.

KOSA has been defeated several times already and they keep trying over and over until the one time it goes through, at which point it becomes everyone's problem. It will be an unmitigated disaster if this passes and they say, well, sorry, now it's the law. Make sure your creature votes No on this.
Hey romancelandia and fandom peeps! If you live in the U.S. right now you should know that KOSA (along with a slew of censorship bills) are advancing through congress right now. If you care about spicy books and/or fanfiction you should contact your reps right now and tell them to vote NO on KOSA!

Early on in Fire Emblem (2003) the player gets a paladin named Marcus. Marcus is very strong;vhe can kill pretty much any enemy with one attack.

You must never use Marcus. He is a noob trap that soaks up XP your other characters need to be useful in the late game.

This is a post about AI.

Katherine Clark, the Democratic minority whip, sent this email criticizing the GOP's "wasteful stunt" to pass a resolution condemning socialism on the day Mamdani met Trump.

Only one problem: she voted for it!

When a governor sexually harasses his subordinates and resigns in disgrace, the state pays his legal fees. But his victims - who are state employees! - have to pay their legal bills out of-pocket.

I also think the desire to “solve” a show robs it of the ability to evolve in meaning as the culture around it evolves. The best art can be interpreted in many ways as we ourselves shift!

The basic premise of the Second Amendment has proven itself to be a sham. The government already *has* crossed the Rubicon into full-throated tyranny and open authoritarianism, and the 2A gun zealots didn't form a militia to fight it - they cheered it on.
Gun zealots like to pretend that gun critics are afraid of guns because they’ve never handled one. I’ve been a gun owner my whole adult life (mostly through circumstance). I understand what they’re for. & what they’re not for. There is no purpose for this many guns but murder and terror.

"But what if I have to gun it in an emergency?" is one of those knee-jerk responses which evaporates when you consider the number of times you've had to do that on a residential street, vs the number of times you've had to slam on the brakes.
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

People have retconned the history of REAL ID to be about proving citizenship, but it was never about that. It was always about surveillance, under the name of counterterrorism.

REAL ID does not (necessarily) prove citizenship, contrary to popular misconception.
REAL ID does not prove citizenship, because in several states it is possible to legally get one without being a citizen.

The point of REAL ID was not to prove citizenship. The point was to increase federal access to state data, for "counterterrorism".
