I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

torn between wanting to like this meme because fuck the Democrats, and wanting to dislike it because Tonya Harding deserves justice!!!
Yup, pretty much sums it up

If your senator isn't publicly calling for a change in Senate leadership, you should assume that they supported the deal to end the shutdown.
NEWS: U.S. Senate advances bill to reopen the federal government in a 60-40 vote.

Dems who votes yes:
🔵 Catherine Cortez Masto
🔵 Dick Durbin
🔵 John Fetterman
🔵 Maggie Hassan
🔵 Tim Kaine
🔵 Angus King
🔵 Jackie Rosen
🔵 Jeanne Shaheen

Republicans who voted no:
🔴 Rand Paul

Now is a great time to call Schumer and demand he resign from BOTH minority leader and his senate seat.

Schumer has proven that he is not capable of doing his job. Time to make way for someone else who can.

☎️: (202) 224-6542
It doesn't actually matter if Chuck Schumer votes for this or not.

If he can't keep his caucus unified to protect healthcare for over 10 million Americans, he should resign as leader.

every time I think I couldn't be more disappointed with the national Democratic party, because I've lowered my expectations enough, they find a new way to be a letdown that I hadn't even considered
How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you do not keep the government shut for more than a month and then NOT get a deal on the main item you have been messaging on without completely shifting the blame dynamic.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

Throwing away all your political capital after a historic off year election for a 1 year continuation of ACA funding is absolutely pathetic.
SCHUMER is on the floor now making this offer to end the shutdown:

Clean CR
Bipartisan "minibus" of approps bills
1-year ACA funding extension
Bipartisan cmte to negotiate on health care

"This is a reasonable offer that reopens the government, deals with health care affordability."

Amazing that Schumer managed to look at Tuesday and think, "yes, what the people want is for us to compromise even more and throw away what little leverage we have".

Here's how to turn off Bluesky's censorship settings, so you can see posts by people you follow, even if Bluesky thinks they're rude.

You can customize the controls on quite a bit more than the Rude label, even.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Just got through to a REAL person by calling Gillibrand, which NEVER happens lol. Super easy and quick. Give your senators a call about these nasty bills, most of which aim to allow Trump to censor his critics online and silence LGBTQIA voices.
So what can you do? 🤔

1. Continue pressuring your lawmakers, let them know how unpopular and dangerous censorship and surveillance bills are.

2. Spread the word! Many people have no idea the internet they know and love is under threat.
