“Democrats in Congress can’t claim they’re standing against ICE abuses if they’re calling for more ICE-controlled cameras, which will inevitably be hooked into ICE’s facial recognition and other surveillance tools.”- @evangreer.bsky.social to @politico.com

ICE surveillance concerns shift Democrats’ demands for body cameras
Critics fear the cameras could be used to feed video of protesters into facial recognition tools.

#Section230 is why our internet is open to LGBTQ+ youths who are surviving abusive homes. Shame on those who call its repeal "accountability" when it's actually about silencing marginalized voices. Without it, platforms would drown in frivolous lawsuits designed to erase queer existence.
We’re now entering the 30th anniversary of Section 230 and there’s a bipartisan effort to repeal it- which will mean free speech no more for the internet.

We’ll be getting into it this week- for now, get those phones ready to fire up and call your reps: www.whatissection230.org

Less than 6 months ago @discord.com had a data breach exposing ID’s of 70,000 + of its users but …apparently hasn’t learned anything?

ID checks don’t make the internet safer, they make us all more vulnerable.

Ok, you can stop texting me, I saw the Ring ad. Troubling things about it 🧵:

-The long awaited (much warned about) intro of “AI” recognition. It starts w/ searching for a “brown dog” but means the tech is there for lisence plate reading, face recognition, searching for suspects by description, etc

When I wrote Section 230 I did so knowing it would be critical for protecting free speech online. 30 years later and it’s one of the last things standing in the way of Republican censorship of the internet. Here’s to many more years of defending this vital safeguard of free speech.

🚨 New: We built a visual tracker of the warehouses ICE is targeting across the US.

Working off an idea from @actualkatherine.bsky.social, we’ve mapped active searches, canceled deals, and linked state property records.

Worth noting that a lot of this surveillance infrastructure was funded and promoted by Democrats who framed it as a more humane alternative to Trump’s “wall”

The evidence suggests the “surveillance wall” actually lead to more deaths in the desert
Tech deployed at the border “includes everything from hyper-visible tethered aerostats — massive blimp-like detection platforms hovering thousands of feet over the desert — to stealthy devices like unattended ground sensors to detect footsteps, and license plate scanners disguised as traffic cones.”
How AI Surveillance Tech is Creeping From the Southern Border Into the Rest of the Country
Surveillance technology has long been part of policing the border. ICE’s growing raids are bringing it to many other areas.

You missed the connection between ICE identifying and prosecuting activists and their wearing of body cams. As @fightforthefuture.org pointed out, that requiring every ICE agent to wear a body cam gives them more opp to ID protesters

And, the protesters are now doing the job of taping ICE activity

JUST IN: A federal judge has barred ICE and DHS from using taxpayer information provided by the IRS.

Judge Talwani says that DHS' view that noncitizens lack 4th amendment rights — combined with ICE use of administrative warrants — is a recipe for abuse.

Really good illustration about why all these "online ID verification" bills that tech companies are pushing are NOT about improving child safety and are ENTIRELY something else. Don't fall for them and don't let your elected Reps either.

Tell me when banning something has worked. Age verification laws DONT WORK.

If you want kids to be safe- support their parents with the ability to PARENT- help them provide safety and mental health. Help them provide activities and education.

Help empower parents to PARENT IN THE DIGITAL AGE.

The problem that many adults do not seem to realize about "age verification" is that everyone who is not a teen will have to provide ID (and personal data) to prove it. It's not about protecting kids, it's to control everyone.

People shouldn’t need to be martyred for documenting ICE activities and protecting their communities.

Defund ICE until we can abolish ICE.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
