How about this email to an officer from a Ring employee which really does says it all: The police officer had "10 uses of the discount code" and was now eligible for free reward "for all your hard work" selling devices for a private company.

okay, but it's not the platforms that lose in the push for mandatory age verification, it's human rights and free expression that loses
I repeat: they deserve to lose.

These age verification initiatives is a privacy nightmare. Terrible policies hastily put out without a second thought to wider implications is endangering safety while offering no real protection in the way it is intended. This will drive people deeper into the darker pits of the net.

The same technology the Amazon-owned company uses to find lost dogs could easily be turned against their owners.

#Section230 is why our internet is open to LGBTQ+ youths who are surviving abusive homes. Shame on those who call its repeal "accountability" when it's actually about silencing marginalized voices. Without it, platforms would drown in frivolous lawsuits designed to erase queer existence.
We’re now entering the 30th anniversary of Section 230 and there’s a bipartisan effort to repeal it- which will mean free speech no more for the internet.

We’ll be getting into it this week- for now, get those phones ready to fire up and call your reps: www.whatissection230.org

-The long awaited (much warned about) intro of “AI” recognition. It starts w/ searching for a “brown dog” but means the tech is there for lisence plate reading, face recognition, searching for suspects by description, etc

When I wrote Section 230 I did so knowing it would be critical for protecting free speech online. 30 years later and it’s one of the last things standing in the way of Republican censorship of the internet. Here’s to many more years of defending this vital safeguard of free speech.

Worth noting that a lot of this surveillance infrastructure was funded and promoted by Democrats who framed it as a more humane alternative to Trump’s “wall”

The evidence suggests the “surveillance wall” actually lead to more deaths in the desert
Tech deployed at the border “includes everything from hyper-visible tethered aerostats — massive blimp-like detection platforms hovering thousands of feet over the desert — to stealthy devices like unattended ground sensors to detect footsteps, and license plate scanners disguised as traffic cones.”
How AI Surveillance Tech is Creeping From the Southern Border Into the Rest of the Country
Surveillance technology has long been part of policing the border. ICE’s growing raids are bringing it to many other areas.

You missed the connection between ICE identifying and prosecuting activists and their wearing of body cams. As @fightforthefuture.org pointed out, that requiring every ICE agent to wear a body cam gives them more opp to ID protesters

And, the protesters are now doing the job of taping ICE activity
