My sister contracted measles prior to a vaccine being developed. Measles wiped her immune memory, she was then exposed to and infected with TB. She spent a year at a live-in TB treatment facility, and saw no outside visitors. Sadly her health never recovered and she died at 16. So hard on mom.

My husband, who contracted pneumonia from this year's ugly type of flu just before Christmas, tested negative at home for the flu but positive in an ER several days later. His lungs are slowly recovering.
The treatment works best when started within 48 hours of symptom onset. Therefore, the CDC says treatment should not be withheld due to a negative test result if a person’s symptoms are consistent with the flu, especially if they are in a high risk group.

One thing that's going to start having to happen is riskier earlier vaccinations for MMR because until the antivaxxers get cracked down on, measles is just going to wander around randomly killing newborns.
“There’s evidence from this study that very early vaccination delays lead to later vaccination delays and even missed vaccination for measles. This shows that vaccine hesitancy is really starting early and has a long arc with severe end consequences.”
