Of course I had to do this for Farley.
Because of his high empathy, he's a strong waterwitch. He could communicate with large bodies of water and convince even rivers to help him. Farley is very perceptive to emotion and actively attempts to see what others might overlook, so🧵

Preferably quickly.” “Don’t you think you are being a bit paranoid? No one even knows where we…” Av’ry turned back towards Mikiva, fully intending to finish his thought, but instead she shoved him backwards, hard. The arrow that embedded itself in the crate behind him kind of made his point invalid. “So, leaving now?” he asked. “It might be a little late for that, if they have archers in place,” Mikiva replied. “Go left, that alley has some cover. Maybe we can lose them.” “What do you think the chances of that are?” Av’ry asked as they scrambled for the alley. “After they’ve already fired a shot? Very poor. Their men are all in position or they wouldn’t have made their move. I imagine they’ve been watching us for some time now, waiting for the right moment.” “So, this should be fun then,” Av’ry replied sarcastically. “Just shut up and run,” the dark-haired spy advised curtly.

Fox has a slightly complicated relationship with water.

Her powers are fire-based, but that doesn't make water a problem. Often quite the contrary, as water is excellent at absorbing heat, and she sometimes needs to dissipate a lot of it in a way that won't hurt anyone🧵

I went with “backwards.”

But, like, here’s a thing I worry about. People show curiosity about gargoyles being main characters in my fantasy and I worry readers will be disappointed.

A- Im pedantic about it. They aren’t just muscly imps.
B- They mostly appear in human form.
He once again eyed her pajamas as if struggling not to judge her taste in fashion. Excuse me, but I hadn’t planned on getting caught up in a demonic battle or attending a gargoyle conference, Sir, she thought, giving him a sullen look in return. “Will someone do the honors?” Julian looked out again towards the guardians. He meant someone to guard her? Helena looked around, hoping that Kia would volunteer to keep her company, but when she turned, it was the twins that stood on either side of her. Dismissed, the other guardians slipped wordlessly in different directions. The large blonde woman stepped backwards and the entire bulk of her muscular human form was swallowed by her great stone griffin, as if her flesh had been merely an illusion. Edgar did the same, but gave them a thumbs-up gesture that was the last part of him to be swallowed by cold stone. She looked up to see Kia and Jim both effortlessly clamber up the western face of the chapel and disappear into their respective stone avatars, leaving the night chill and quiet once more

Trapped in another plane. Some experimental shit, 😳 but I think it evokes today’s word.

- Brother’s Keeper, book one of my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by a misunderstood power.
Bared to a wind so cold his father's crying still colder and they are real, his fate and his soul-name laid on him in that wind, shrieking over the bottomless drop: the abyss of his father's despair so cold that it burns; and now he burns red, his body a furnace of agony with no hope. The heat of compression, of being squeezed from the womb; the heat of blood and the sting of a hand larger than hiswhole back. White flame scours his lungs—the air— Doom! A cold nipple he does not want. Born again, young again, all meaning in Drie, the voice that sings with love, the hands that feed himcomfort. Drie's arms encircle him; his calming heartbeat cools his fears and then she comes with her apricot smell and her fire-colored hair. And now he burns. Like the red flicker feathers he stole from Cerel to hide in Drie's bed, he burns, in horrible flashes like late summer lightning. When it eases, if it eases, he will die, if it will stop. Rush’s take on history is one that just about everyone who hears it takes issue with some part of. His gf Lara and fellow scholar Meldryn are the specific SCs we see him argue with. This issue is literally his main driver because he feels he has so much riding on being right.

For a moment. that seemed excruciatingly long, Strope watched Halla examine the shell comb and then breathed a silent gasp of relief when she put it in her hair and smiled. "It's very pretty, thank you." Before he could stop himself, Strope blurted out; "I thought it matched your eyes." It was true but Strope cringed as soon as he'd spoken. Oh, how he wished that he could roll back into the bed and spend the rest of the week hiding under the cover. He hadn't meant to say anything of the sort to Halla, she was just a friend who happened to be a woman but Karl had already poked enough fun at him just for buying her a present. Strope fixed a cursed smile onto his mouth, one that hurt his jaw, as Halla stared at him in, what he hoped, was confusion. "But my eyes are grey." "Well, you can't see them, can you? There's some blue in them and sometimes green. And so I thought…" both Strope's voice and smile drained away.

I've been a little Atlantis-ed out with snips lately, but I can never resist sharing from one of my favorite passages 😊❤️

Mireia contemplates her feelings for Kena & the idea of "fate." From Book 2 of my #Atlantis trilogy.
And yet, some stubborn part of her still resisted, even though she knew it was hopeless. Everyone had been telling them from the start that they were doomed to end up together, that it was simply inevitable, and she’d always hated that. She didn’t want to be the slave of fate. She didn’t want to follow the predictable path. She didn’t want to want Kena. But she did. She wanted him so much it hurt. Had it really been inevitable all along that she would start to feel this way? Was free will really just an illusion after all? Maybe. But then again, maybe fate had nothing to do with it. Maybe this was simply the natural result of spending so much time with another person: eventually you started to love them, because you just couldn’t help it. Mireia did sometimes wonder what their lives would have been like if they’d never been chosen as the Sun Father and Sea Mother. Would they still have been pulled together somehow? Would they have even met at all? Or would they have gone their whole lives never even knowing that the other existed? But of course, none of that really mattered. Those other lives weren’t theirs; this one was. And in this life, they had been chosen, and thus they’d been paired up, and thus they’d begun to orbit one another. They’d been shoved together because they were supposed to fall in love, and they’d begun to fall in love because they were shoved together. A self-fulfilling prophecy. She could have had him at any time, she knew. He could have had her, too—any time he wanted. All it would take was one night, one decision, and the two of them would come crashing together like the sea against the shore.

The obnoxious, spoiled jackass didn’t even know what suffering was. And part of her was dying to demonstrate for him. It wasn’t like he didn’t deserve it. He had poisoned her. Who would blame her? For a moment, Fox allowed the fantasy, stoked the righteous fury that had kindled in her blood. Unbidden, or at least unconsciously bidden, flames began to dance across her clenched fists, bright in the dim tunnels. And for just an instant, she could see what she would do to him, so clear that she could taste it, feel it, smell it. It was the smell that stopped her cold. She would never forget the sickly-sweet stench of burning flesh, never forget the first time… Tendrils of fear constricted her heart like a vice, strangling the anger, crushing it into nothingness. The flames died instantly. Whatever progress she had made, Fox still feared herself more than anything else. She likely always would.

To all waterwitches, not just the ones in Farley's coven, there is a significant lake called the Sacred Pool. It's a place of great power and knowledge, the most ancient body of water known to waterwitches (except for the sea, which is difficult to work with).

The largest lake in Atalantis is in the western plains* regions, Lake Taaloue (TAHL-u-way).

Comparatively it's around-ish the same size as Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana. Its name means "Starry Lake" because its surprisingly still waters reflect the sky beautifully ❤️
