“Like all mad dogs, their usefulness quickly runs out.” Ashrah and Sareena whirled around and craned their necks to find Ikalry, the devil famous for her bloody moniker, Mistress of Massacres, grinning in a way that was not unlike her creations now agonising on the spikes. “And they fulfilled their purpose by bringing you to me.”

“You shall regret it,” Ashrah retorted, not caring to hide her scorn from the vicious killer who stood twice her size and with three arms on each side of her elongated torso, each carrying a weapon large enough to end Ashrah in one blow. The scant and grimy hides she wore did little to conceal the welts and runes spread throughout her vermilion skin, the bloody marks pulsing in rhythm with the two crimson gemstones she carried, one imbued to the golden collar around her long neck, and the other chiselled into her forehead. A wild mass of red hair—wilder than any elbhyr Ashrah had ever met, despite her species being known for such excesses—reached as far as the devil’s knees. Dark plum horns jutted out from her temples and curved outwards. Trinkets hung from strips of viscera tied to each horn: in one, an eye and a fang; in the other, two fingers severed from what Ashrah assumed had been a Nether-Touched.

A while back I read THE 3 BODY PROBLEM by Chinese author Cixin Liu (yes because of the Netflix show, lol).

Unlike the show, the books are mainly centered in China, with Chinese protags. I've been meaning to finish books 2 & 3 of the trilogy one of these days!

Fun fact: the form we see Ashrah in most of the time is, essentially, her alternate form! Her natural form is that of an elbhyr, the demon race known as Demon of Pride!

She also has her "Balance Form," which blends the two 💜

#FebruaryWorldbuilders 3. This question inspired me to try Inkarnate again, so yesterday I put together this map of the Kingdom of Ophádün, our main setting in Edenia. It’s still very WIP-y, but it gives an idea of the major locations seen or mentioned in EF and Mileena’s short stories. (1/2)

“Perhaps.” He smiled, unperturbed. “But surely you would allow that actions are not as important as the intention behind them. Stripped of context, anything can seem sinister, and people sometimes need to do things that they are not proud of, if the cause is worthy enough. You simply do not understand the circumstances.”
“Only because you refuse to enlighten me. I said that I would listen, but if you think that I will take what you are saying simply on faith, you’re a bigger fool than you think I am.” Fox crossed her arms over her chest.
“Touché. Very well, you need not believe anything that I say. I will simply tell you how things are, and you can make your own determination. I am confident that you will see it my way.”
“Talk, then. If you think that you can convince me, give it a shot.”

A snippet from Ellamir by C A Malin:
"Oh! goodness, no," said Hannah, quite taken aback, "a lady does not ask a gentleman if he will dance with her; she must be asked by him. And there are not so many gentlemen in the village, so ladies must often go without partners, and then… being what I am… there is little inducement…"
"What you are," said Maqine, suddenly and rather warmly, "is a very pretty and sweet young woman who any worthless fellow from the village should be glad to dance with. Why should they care where your parents are, or where you grew up? What's that got to do with anything?"
"I…" whispered Hannah, "you see…"
"And while we're at it, what's it got to do with some Brothers at the Temple to tell a woman how to be pure and perfect? I bet you anything you like they're just as sinful as the rest of us. It seems to me like everybody spends all their time trying to tell you you aren't good enough for them, unless you do just what they tell you to do!"
With this, Maqine stopped to take a breath to prevent herself from becoming angrier, and it was as well that she did because Hannah looked as if she might be about to cry: she was very good at putting on a brave face almost all of the time, but she wasn't used to such forthright opinions, forcibly expressed, and undeniably just. It so happened that she had recently been feeling the weight of her misfortune particularly acutely, and even though she surely had much to be thankful for, and even though it must be abominably ungrateful to The Lady of Purity whose blessings, she was told, had been most generously poured upon her, she could not help feeling sometimes that her future happiness was by no means assured.

Should Frogbo even go on to survive their journey… for what? A place of perishment, long-beyond any saving? Much like Frogbo and much as the World, once bread is toasted into toast is there no turning back to bread. You can't un-toast toast, and you can't toast toast neither—it's just toast, instead. That's how it is. All toast to fall tribute unto the ever-hungry cosmic gullet feeding from below 'til dinner's done. The train of thought made chills run down Bunibo's fuzz.

So had Bunibo caught herself wavering, her mind spiralling in tandem with her most auspiciously boxen staircase. No more, snapped Bunibo to her inmost self. She will not sanction sadness at this time. Not now, not yet. She smacked her paws against her cheeks in an effort to rouse her confidence in the plucky Frog. Clap clap clapa! Giving up wasn't in Bunibo's rulebook, after all, so what's the point in an addendum now?

Bunibo hoped beyond all hope that hope would not prove hopeless.
