I'm just a soft hearted romantic who loves stories about the farthest depths of human emotion which largely happen around swords and dragons.

Hi #WritingCommunity!
I'm Zee, writer of fantasy, romance, LGBTQ+ and magic.

I'm working on a book! Which means I have a long, rich, important road ahead of me. I'm overjoyed to be on this journey and connect with others. 💛
The most terrifying thing about the magic that permeates my world is its unpredictability. One small mistake, and everyone ends up as cinders. Or flamingos. Or soup tureens.
Occasionally, all at once.

Dahlia giggled, “It feels nice. It feels like putting on my favorite sweater.”
“Yeah. That’s a good way to put it. So.” Rose paused and looked away for a moment. “So, can we do this?”
“Do what?” Dahlia asked.

One magical culture’s people master a topic they find on their own. From there, they dedicate themselves to understanding it fully, crafting their magic around their findings.
Ex; Sound.
Moving soundwaves around, to either stop it being heard, or gathering secrets.

What does it take to be considered a "master" of your magic system?
Is it about the range of your techniques? The difficulty level? The amount of knowledge in your head? Your ability not to set yourself on fire?
Or perhaps there IS no "mastery"?

Wandering in the unknown, souls await to be ferried off into an afterlife by either a unicorn of land or sea. Yet, another entity salivates at intercepting them.
Alternatively, those who dabbled in/products of Rituals will wander eternity without a guide.

Elsa-as-inspo was very unconsciously done (I had not seen Frozen since it was still new) so watching it again this year i was sat there like 😳🫢
Nothing "cease & desist letter from Disney" worthy but it's still funny.

Where do you get inspiration for your characters personality?
Yourself? Fictional characters? People you know or celebrities? It just comes to you?
Has someone you've met ever reminded you of your character?

Usually, the base of the characters comes from random ideas—ideas, of course, always have baggage, but anyway. As I develop the character, I'm reminded of others (the chart below is one [1/4]

There is no in-universe demarcation of swashbucklers, simply people who acquire a reputation for being dangerously nuts.
From our PoV, we can definitely pick out "powerful swashbucklers", and they have certain traits, but different characters emphasize them differently. +

Ok, this is probably a spoiler, but I have spoiled this already and I like the moment, so here it is!
Fox and Av’ry haven’t seen each other in a while.

Training and practice overall, study for mages on top of that. Even witches born with powerful magic have to train to master it, or it'll never develop, like a muscle allowed to atrophy or a brain without education. (1/2)

Yes! This is how thralls exist, from what little people know of necromancy. Souls who die must be taken away by Ennai, but that requires they accept naiun. Souls who die before getting the chance to experience naiun get stuck in between until Ennai can convince them to leave.

For Hands, there is a clear "you've made it" line, and that is when you receive your godmark.
For witches, it's about time, deeds, and experience. There is no great ceremony where you put on the title of Granny and wear it from then on. It happens organically if you deserve it.

Mages in my world operate more on a military system than an academic one, so mages who are especially skilled and talented typically have a high rank and lead other mages/soldiers in battle.
In this context, it generally comes down to who is most effective in combat. 🧵

Mireia & Kena fight the most about two things: being honest with each other, & their tactics for approaching conflict.

Let's talk about conflict!
What is something your character and the person closest to them fight about?
Is one side clearly in the right, or is it ambiguous?
How do they resolve their dispute? Or do they?

An excuse to talk about Aisling!
There is a Named God of trance and dreams who holds domain over vision and the subconscious. Mostly they're just trances that grant you insight into a current situation, like an oracle deck or crystal ball. One in a million are prophetic.
