The good people of Swallowsaw could be counted on to provide for themselves with their gardens and to fill the gaps in their pantries at the citizens’ market, but some things could not be grown at home—like microwave ramen and condoms. Such imported luxuries were sorted by type but not by brand. The ketchup that came in on the last train was the ketchup you got. All the bottles with their different volumes and shapes and labels were chucked in a big cardboard box on a pallet, this week’s shipment on top of last week’s on top off the week before’s. If you dug to the bottom and found one that was expired, you could ask for a discount.

crossed some stuff out messing up my word count math but it was somewhere between another 2-2.4k in the #Dogwood2 rewrite.

Knocked out another #Dogwood2 scene rewrite bringing the total left to edit down to 7. total word count is over 81k.

and i still have 30 minutes to read before naptime ends!🥳
He returned to his room to find it almost but not quite how he’d left it. The broken window was boarded up, and safety bars secured the remaining window, as though someone feared he’d make jumping from second stories a habit. Dust blurred every surface and the dresser drawers all smelled ripely of mouse urine. The books he’d saved up during Wesley’s abscence were jumbled on the shelf like they’d been picked through, and all the canned goods he’d stashed under the bed were gone. Someone had taken it all. Everything else he could forget, but it did something to him, seeing his emergency cache ransacked to the last crumb. He had been very small the last time this had happened.

think i did just under 1.5k in the #Dogwood2 rewrite today, and there are like 8 scenes left. (my "10k remaining" estimate might have been a little low but not by much.)

the Kenzie/pony reunion went way more smoothly than the Owen/wesley reunion.
“Get out! Stay away from me! GUARD!” Wesley seized the chain and cracked it like a whip against the metal bedframe. The resounding clang rattled the mirrors and the mirrors and windowpanes. The guard came in, wide-eyed and anxious. “Get him out of here,” Wesley ordered, still clutching the chain like a weapon. The guard touched Owen’s shoulder and Owen shrugged him off. “What are you taking orders from him for? He’s your prisoner!”
