There was no true darkness in the city. There was nighttime, and the changing of the scene, and the shadows locals knew to skirt around. Some kind of mournful jazz grew louder and softer then far away as Rowan made his slow circuitous way back to the park, taking care not to backtrack over any of the route Kenzie might have seen him take earlier.

That's 1/5 possibly even 1/4 of the way done.
They barely looked at each other: no easy feat when they were each other's only traveling companion through a claustrophobic, monochrome world of leafless trees, rocks, and frozen dark earth. Wesley, colorless as winter herself, walked alongside his horse, pale, brooding—sulking, because Owen had won an argument by masturbating. That had been a close one. Owen's skin still prickled with the awareness. He'd wrenched his heart out of Wesley's jaws, but the damned bleeding thing had stretched and snapped and left pieces of itself stuck in the teeth. And when he was not driven to distraction by Wesley's sullen silence— 3 dead boys, 3 dead boys Chanting Wesley's words but not in his voice. A more resonant voice, the voice of truth.

First drafts are so beautiful because they really showcase the author's anxiety that the reader will apparently forget the MC's name if she doesn't use it in every sentence at least twice. And then absolutely zero dialogue tags.

I can turn it into proper sentences with actual grammar later, but Wesley likes cooking now because my MCs exist to carry my burdens for me.
One dish, frequent in the rotation due to the ready availability of the ingredients—cuts of chicken, seasoned, and the skin seared to a crisp, then baked in a pan with chopped apples and onions. The apples retained their sweetness, while becoming savory and oily in the fat, speckled with thyme and sage, hatchmarked with rosemary, sometimes out of the garden fresh, or else dried. Eaten not with fork and knife but two forks; Stephen, being a bachelor, owned only six forks. Owen ate with his hands. The chicken first, sucking the last shreds of meat from the bone; then the apples and the onions, then the chunks of garlic swimming in the bottom of the bowl. Normally so reticent about mixed-ingredient foods: wary of meats and the obscurity of sauces, things like onions, out of the ground. Apples were usually okay. But his reticence vanished when Wesley cooked, the trust in Wesley’s hands and the food made by them absolute. He licked his fingers when he was done, then his knuckles, sometimes his wrists. And Wesley liked to watch Owen eat. The rose bushes were bristling with forks slipped to the crows.
