There was no true darkness in the city. There was nighttime, and the changing of the scene, and the shadows locals knew to skirt around. Some kind of mournful jazz grew louder and softer then far away as Rowan made his slow circuitous way back to the park, taking care not to backtrack over any of the route Kenzie might have seen him take earlier.

#SFFChat 3: Not exactly on topic but I just realized that due to the nature of alternate earth history i scraped together for Dogwood, new york and all other major US cities north of DC and east of the appalachians no longer exist, thus wiping Eastern Standard Time literally off the map.........😳

before i included sunlight in my plot, one of the funniest beta comments was "Your book is so dark. I don't just mean the themes but like every scene took place in the dark/at night."

Dogwood plays around with time in the classic "go into fairyland for 2 hours and come back out much later in human world" but as for TIME OF DAY, not so much significance.

In book 4 I'm experimenting with time as molasses: days and nights get "stretched out". But that's under construction.
