Hello! It's me! I'm Seán, dark fantasy writer and wizard enjoyer. Talk to me about kung fu movies, Souls games, and dungeon synth.

I write Shadows & Sorcery, a weekly dark fantasy flash fiction publication on Substack, plus a monthly serial novel, The Path of Poison. I also draw sometimes.

Instead of the constant moment to moment story I've been doing I really need to let myself gloss over more mundane stuff I get stuck on so I can get to the story proper, which is exactly how I'm doing the next chapter, getting right into Sepp and Casimir seedy underbelly adventures
Onto Path of Poison this week, need to do some serious brainstorming because I legit don't know where to take the story right now😭

The overaching story is
-sepp & casimir uncovering a thing
-the gang need money
-local politics?
-finding passage to lundermark

Will report back

I'd been writing character/story/dialogue snippets for a blue collar tomb cleaner cast inspired by playing Morrowind I really wanted to use in my Shadows & Sorcery flash fic publication, and Cyberpunk 2077 unlocked the final piece: a dungeonpunk megacities and adventurers world
Good morning #JanuaryWorldbuilders! A very broad question that I have no doubt is difficult to answer: What was YOUR beginning of worldbuilding? What was your inspiration? Your initial spark? Another work of fiction? Boredom? A powerful imagination seeking an outlet?

Kung fu movies, Souls games, well-timed "that's what she said jokes", preem local take out, calling things preem, the Tarantella del Gargano, when the weather is just chilly enough, takin a proper fat shit (have to have IBS for this one tbf), cats, dungeon synth, my mom's garlic bread, wizards
I got one question….. what do Yall actually enjoy in life? Seems like folks don’t enjoy anything anymore (if you don’t have anything good just keep it moving)

And how could I forget the tank controls

Never was a fan of them but they're not too bad here, will be a shock to anyone coming from an actual Souls game though lmao
Started playing Blade of Darkness, the 2001 so-called proto-Souls game

Jank but fun, interesting and fairly satisfying directional combat, I can see calling it an anticipation of Demon's Souls what with the generally high difficulty, stamina management, overall mood, but it's not quite there imo

Despite the Church of the Triple Trinity's best attempts, the magical practice of evocation remains extremely popular on a small scale. Possible via the natural abilities of the soul, it allows one to, for instance, evoke the light or heat from a piece of burnt firewood.

#JanuaryWorldbuilders Opposite of yesterday's prompt! What's something in your worldbuilding that helps your MC (or another important character)? Do they have useful magic? A helpful critter companion? Are their clothes or weapons useful for getting around in their world?

Watched the rather quaint early 80s horror ONE DARK NIGHT

TBH I don't think the intertwined plots work well, in fact I think they could be pretty easily combined. But it certainly doesn't detract from the nifty atmosphere, good use of location (Phantasm mausoleum?), and brisk pace. Fun time!

Questions like these are always so difficult to answer as a writer of standalone short fiction😭 The antagonist of the Demiurge stories is the whole ass universe and in the very first story ever written a monstrous vampire that Carloman was really hoping wouldn't show up was its manifestation.
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Antagonist day! How are we first introduced to your antagonist?

What are they doing when they appear on the page? Is it meant to be apparent that they are a villain?

What is being showcased about them?

So fantasy writers why do YOU🫵 write in pre-modern/medieval settings? If you worlds are those either wholesale or predominantly, of course. Genre expectations? Tradition? Or a more conscious choice?
January 5, 2026 at 7:35 PM
I'm consciously trying to make it so Sepp isn't the agent of change in every single place/situation he comes to like an RPG character so I need to be careful. He'll be instrumental in uncovering something with Casimir but that should be the extent of it. Sepp is a volatile element, not THE element.

Is it cheating if I say everything?💀
I mean, sure, they're "used" to their corporate medieval stasis dystopia with a propaganda church that cannibalizes organic faiths, but it's still a hindrance to a decent quality of life. More immediate concerns? Well...

Hey there, #JanuaryWorldbuilders! We're introducing our worlds this week. Tell me about some aspect of your worldbuilding which is a problem for your characters. Is their world infested with monsters? A dystopian government? Or maybe you created a bug that bites them in their sleep?
