Through the 2 published books, in order, she goes:

Acrobat/actress
Underground investigator/criminal
Sacred figure
Noble cleric's betrothed
Rescue fighter/worker for the Underground
Ghost/Adventurer
Psychopomp

Future stuff:
Cryptid

I dunno where she fits in society either.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, tell me about your MC's (or another important character if you don't do MCs) role in society. Are they upper or lower class? What job/tasks do they do as part of this society? Are they even a member of a society?

I'm stressed out about school stuff so I made myself take an art break and draw something aimless and whimsical and this was the result

#SFFChat Outro:

I've deleted my Twitter, so Bluesky is my only current social media platform for showcasing my books. If y'all could just spread around my books, pinned post or website, that'll help while I try to figure out other platforms.

Heavy percussion made the wooden table radio pulse to a rhythm slightly faster than a heartbeat.

#SFFChat Q3:

@sgwolfeauthor.bsky.social

I'm currently reading one of his books, but his openings do exactly what I need. they shows me who the characters are and what they do.

His fantasy, Rescue from the Orc Fortress, is short, but it has a fun opening with holograms shooting arrows!
#SFFChat Q3: Name an author or a work that nails the opening!
January 8, 2026 at 11:56 PM
#SFFChat Q2:

Yes! It was just one chapter. By the time I get to Chapter 3, I usually know if I'm going to finish a story or not. The first sentence does not need to snag me.

Even books I'm not into and put down, I'll try to come back to later. Especially if I like the concept behind it.
#SFFChat Q2: If an opening doesn't immediately hook you, do you read on just in case? How long do you give a book?

Discuss!
January 8, 2026 at 11:51 PM
#SFFChat Q1:

I'm not a ranter when it comes to other authors books. Talking about what I dislike is something I grew out of in my early 20's (Mostly...).

Beginnings I like showcase our protagonist(s) and their world. The actual story can start in chapter 2. I don't mind. Prologues are great!
#SFFChat Q1: What are your favourite & least favourite types of openings/beginnings?

Do you detest books that open with weather, travel, or someone staring into a mirror? What about books that open with introspection or with action?

Discuss!

#SFFChat Intro:

I'm Rebecca E. Reyes, an author. Remember, it's only speculative fiction if it comes from the Speculative region of France. Otherwise, it's just ✨sparking✨ science fantasy.

Great news! I've not completely messed up being a mom! My kid just turned 5 and he's now half made of sugar.
#SFFChat Intro: Introduce yourself and share something positive!

#AwesomeCharacters

Thalia, the circus acrobat, is strange in personality, body shape, clothes, and hobbies. And yet, things have weirded her out.

The fact that she's actually interacted with the gods, the afterlife's artificialness, and necromancer performance artists have all given her the "huh?"
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

What's your character's weird meter like?

Do they encounter strange (for their world) things? Is ordinary for them very different from ordinary for those around them?

What's the weirdest thing they've seen?

I'd of put this in my shop, but this copy of Sigils of Malice got beat to hell during shipping. I'll just keep it around as a personal copy.

Map came out great from Amazon's printers though. If you want to buy directly from me here's my shop!

From Sigils of Redemption (Book 3):

I do not have the word "canvas" yet, but there will be canvases in Fort Gladium later in the story. In the mean time, here's the painting that started the romance between Thalia and Alderius in Book 1.

Hey @magaziner.house.gov you should be in on this too.
I’m joining Rep. @robinkelly.house.gov to introduce articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and will use every lever available to end the terror ICE has unleashed on our communities.

Stay loud.

You don't fill your books with necromancers and then put a dragon skeleton in a museum if you don't intend to make that thing a problem!

That's just Chekov's Gun 101.

#Critterary

Funny you should ask. Sigils doesn't have dinosaurs like we have them, but there are fossils in the Overworld.

Hanging in Dragonheart University is a petrified forest dragon skeleton from millions of years ago. Dragons still exist in the world.

Day 8
Pivoting to something really different today - dinosaurs! I feel like they still aren't in enough stories, but I'm always happy to see when they do 😌 So focusing on the 'terrible' (but actually amazing) lizards of the land!

Social class is cut and dry in The Sarcophagus of Lamia. Literally it's an A to F system. A-D you can be born into. E & F are criminals who will be made useful for society if caught.

A is reserved for prestigious families, so me splicing a class F pirate with a...

The Greed Wars marked the dismantling of Aloutia's hierarchies. Before then, you had kings, nobles of various ranks, upper class commoners, and lower classes, then peasants. No slavery, though some places were about to attempt serfdom until the Kingeater paid them a visit...
Welcome to the second week of #JanuaryWorldbuilders! The theme of this one is SOCIETY. Again, relatively broad for now. We'll delve into more weeds later in the year. Today's Q: Talk about social classes. How are they handled? Do they have hierarchies? Nobles and commoners? Or is it classless?

Who decides if a person is important, right down to the soul? Thalia doesn't care about the answer. She is nobody and will use that to her advantage.

She's supposed to be the goddess, Omera, from my Sigils books, but just like my writing, the doodle got away from me.

My kid is so lucky. I started picking up all the toys in the living room after their bedtime and each object reminds me of a game we play.

Love my kid. Getting sick almost monthly is so worth it if it means smashing monster rucks into block piles and bowling pins for the next few years.
