For Lex, honor, without question. For Daemrin, results... though he has his own sense of honor, too.
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Honor or results?

If it came down to it would your character choose to maintain their honor, or would they break their oath/promise/the rules to accomplish their goal?

How would they feel about it?

Lex does—at least, in the start of COTBM. And even after a tragic event occurs, she thinks love will be able to salvage what's left of her father and make him good again.

Daemrin knows better. Love is not enough. #Lovember #WritingCommunity
Today's random #Lovember #WritingPrompt for the #WriteSky #WritingCommunity:

Does your character believe in The Power Of Love™️? If so, what do they believe are its limits?

All of the actual injuries in THE DEVOURING are spoilers, so here's a... Here's something, lmao. I suppose you could consider it an injury of some fashion.

From the second chapter of my cosmic horror/revenge thriller. CW: autopsy, body horror.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

From Daemrin's introductory chapter in THE CRUCIBLE OF THE BROKEN MOON, my space opera romantasy. He and his best friend Stavro have arrived at Belenos, Lex's home planet, to deliver a wanted criminal and collect the bounty.

Also lol @ dropping a title reference in Ch 2. #WIPSnips #WritingCommunity

In Katorgan culture, they:

- raise child soldiers

- believe incarceration morally wrong, which means execution and exile are acceptable forms of punishment

- and when I say "exile," I mean "drop the perpetrator onto a random planet with *nothing* and wish them the best"

#NovemberWorldbuilders
What's up, #NovemberWorldbuilders peeps! Have you dared to get a little freaky with your worldbuilding? Does your fictional world's society believe something to be good or evil which societies on Earth (generally speaking) do not agree with? How did you come up with that idea?👀
November 14, 2025 at 12:08 PM
As an American, November is always a tough month because I don't get to write as much for a few days around Thanksgiving. I think big writing challenges in general are good, though I may never participate in one again after this year. 😂 #pretendpanel
#pretendpanel, even before the last big controversy, November challenges have had their ups and downs. Tell me...

This is probably an unconventional answer, but COME AS YOU ARE by Emily Nagoski is a nonfiction book about women's sexuality as backed by science. It really made me feel normal and seen, which is not at all what I expected from it. #Bookvember

WIP update: 516 words for COTBM Draft 1 today. I'm slowly chipping away at Chapter 4 and have one more scene to write before I call it done. I could write more tonight, but I'm still on schedule with my November goal, so I'll reward myself with some gaming time. #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

"Why does this alien planet use a 24-hour clock?" Because I don't hate myself, dear reader.

A snippet from the first draft of THE CRUCIBLE OF THE BROKEN MOON Chapter 4. #SFFChat
November 14, 2025 at 12:11 AM
For the sake of my sanity and some grounding in the familiar, Galactic Standard Time uses a 24-hour clock, same as on Earth. However, each planet has its own rotation, orbit around its sun, and multiple time zones. I fully intend to gloss over all of these details. 😂 #SFFChat
#SFFChat Q3: How is time kept or measured in your world? If time is the same way as for us, how does magic or technology influence it?
November 14, 2025 at 12:08 AM
Absolutely. I'm one of those writers who have scenes playing out in their heads like a movie, so time of day, background scenery, weather, etc. are all predetermined. Of course, changes can happen mid-drafting or during the revision process. #SFFChat
#SFFChat Q2: When you write, do you tend to have a clear picture of the time of day for particularly intense scenes?
November 13, 2025 at 11:43 PM
My space opera romantasy, THE CRUCIBLE OF THE BROKEN MOON, primarily takes place on a migrating fleet of spaceships in an unfamiliar galaxy. Therefore, night and day are arbitrary. To keep time consistent, they synchronize all clocks in the fleet to Galactic Standard Time. #SFFChat
#SFFChat Q1: What unique features of day, night, or time exist in your world? OR, how do people in your world think about these concepts (maybe they're sacred, etc)?
November 13, 2025 at 11:37 PM
Hello #SFFChat! I'm Ange, and I write horror, fantasy, and romance. My favorite time of day is the morning after a good night's sleep. I feel most energized to tackle tasks, both writing and otherwise, before noon.
#SFFChat Intro: Introduce yourself and share your favourite time of day (night, day, evening, morning--lunch!). Be as general or specific as you like. (:

My characters are usually motivated by love of some kind. For Daemrin and Lex in COTBM, both familial and romantic love fuel them in different ways. In TD, Ayana is partly motivated by her love for her husband, Jason.

Jason doesn't feel love, but he knows possession. #Lovember #WritingCommunity
Today's random #Lovember #WritingPrompt for the #WriteSky #WritingCommunity:

How motivated is/are your character(s) by love—romantic, familial, social (e.g. fame or approval), or otherwise?
November 13, 2025 at 11:33 PM
I can't decide if I'm struggling through a book because (1) it's not a book for me, or (2) it just has a slow start. The worldbuilding is rich and the premise is unique, but the MCs haven't grabbed my interest at all.

Gonna put it on pause and try reading something else instead.
November 13, 2025 at 8:29 PM
TD: Jason & Ayana have already been married for 2 years. 💕

COTBM: Daemrin & Lex get married at the end of the book.

Werewolf horror/romance: Astrid & Henry will get married one day. 🙂‍↕️

Vampires: Lia & Roman see no need for marriage but are glued to the hip (for better or worse).
Is your OC married or will they get married one day? 💍

Jason: Literally a sociopath.
Ayana: She would be wanting to exit the conversation as fast as possible.

Lex: She's actually perfect. We'd be friends.
Daemrin: The alpha male jock energy is TOO MUCH!!!

WIP update: Feeling much better today after everyone's relatable and helpful comments on what a pain in the ass worldbuilding secondary worlds can be sometimes. ❤️

Ezon, Daemrin's older brother, is a pivotal character of the story despite being dead. Daemrin idolizes the memory of Ezon—to his own detriment, unfortunately. He remembers the person he believed Ezon to be, often forgetting that his brother was just another human being doing his best.

Someone historical? Or who died before the events of the story? Or someone absent for other reasons?

I have a tendency to “direct” my characters a little too much, because my brain goes, “If I don’t describe every action, how am I supposed to know they’ve happened?” I try to pare that back in edits but perhaps not as much as I should.
What's a bad writing habit you have that you'd like to kick? #WritingPrompt
