Only if it's divided into two books because it's so big of a book that it would be physically uncomfortable for the average human to read it. In that case, split in two & released at the same time is fine.

Otherwise, no ty
Secondary plots and hinting at things is fine though. Just not main plot.

First, Id like to point out the difference between a “cliffhanger” (a problem solved in the next chapter) and a “game-changer” (a problem that blows readers mind and changes the story.)

I hate cheap cliffhangers.
I LOVE a good game-changer, but also, prefer one-shot stories.

Like every other troupe, cliff hangers can work very well if they are used correctly.

I feel like I am more tolerant of cliffhangers in tv/movies than books. Unresolved plotlines tend to make me angry unless they are very well done, and I don't have to wait for the next book. That said, One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig does a cliffhanger very well. #Books #Writesky

Generally not a fan - Gabaldon has used it, Casey has used it, and even - to a small degree - May has used it. I love their series, but when a storyline is left hanging, I always think, "hope nothing happens to the author before the next book!"

Alas, the only cliffhanger I remember reading - such as it is - was the end of Half-Blood Prince by She Who Mist Not Be Named. Which is just as well; a cliffhanger has to be done reeeeeally well for me to buy in.

I really enjoy Mimi Matthews’ historical romance books, but I can’t say they’ve ever inspired me to write anything similar. They are simply wonderful treats. #Lovember #WritingCommunity
Today's random #Lovember #WritingPrompt for the #WriteSky #WritingCommunity:

Is there a book or writer you love who has NOT really inspired anything in your current work(s) and/or whose oeuvre doesn't really have anything to do with your current focus?
An eclectic love of yours?

#Bookvember 27. I do like them, and as someone who writes series, they're always a part of my stories.

There's the arc of the series and the arc of individual books, though, and I always take care to finish the arc of the book, and that's important, otherwise you get that empty feeling at the end.

I feel like most folks are fans of stories with cliffhangers—big or small. It keeps you interested in the tale.

How about a play with a cliffhanger? I always liked the end of Act One in Sondheim/Lapine’s Into the Woods.

#Bookvember Setting as Character:

Alan Dean Foster does great alien worlds / biologies, and Midworld is my absolute favorite. Everything is weird and deadly and interconnected, constantly blurring the lines between plant and animal. It's a great survival journey.

This year I read Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. Normally, I don't read contemporary lit (not for any particular reason), but I was curious when my mom said she wanted to read it, and it surpassed my expectations and was an enjoyable read for me.

The Church of the Mountain of Flesh by Kyle Wakefield
An incredible trans cosmic horror starring a man that will do anything to get the body he wants. And I mean Anything.
Be it grief, his descent into madness, or his one-track minded pursuit, his narration sometimes distorts reality.

The First to Die at the End by Adam Silvera
I love how this book and They Both Die at the End have New York City be such an integral part to the story, but you really feel it in the prequel. This book wouldn't be the same if it wasn't in NYC. It's its own entity.

Hard to just pick one! Along with The Starless Sea, Anne of Green Gables, & Jane Austen books, these indie books. The descriptions, treatment, & character interactions with setting make the settings feel alive.

26. For this one, I have to go with Mansfield Park, which is actually my favorite Austen for this reason. The comparison of country and city, the way locations reveal so much about character and drive the plot foward, is what I love so much about it. #Bookvember #writingcommunity #writesky

I’m obsessed with Magiford. Every series gives me a little more of it and the characters I love. Generally, I go for spicy romance, but these books are in my top favorite books and they’re sweeter than closed-door. I will never recommend these enough.
