Current work(ing title)s:

Prophecy #71 and Prophecy #72 (Prophecies): cerebral and snarky fantasy genre satire, plus social commentary

Seff the Squire (StS): dark fantasy coming-of-age with elements of class warfare

Grinks & Co.: lighthearted, sex-positive, woman-positive fantasy porn
#AwesomeCharacters
The narrators in Prophecies (third person limited) and StS (first person) lean heavily into interoception thanks to the emotional focus, but some MCs are less connected to their emotions than others.

Technical question today!

What senses do your characters use most?

Do you describe what they see, smell, taste, feel, or hear more?

Is it different between characters?

Do any have special senses?

On a similar note, as Mamdani continues to notch W after W you’re going to start seeing opinion pieces about how this could never work in any city other than New York, etc., etc. Do not engage! It’s just entrenched power bullshit and that’s all! Don’t let them make that a conversation!

"Jealousy" isn't in Grinks & Co.'s dictionary. The four MCs have sex with each other and with supporting characters in every chapter that has them, all with each other's encouragement.
In this snippet, Laylee has just started experimenting with women.

Well, Unaliving my villains would be the easy choice.
If Alakshi were older than her early 20s, she'd be my Marry. She's open with her feelings, loves her friends, and is generally lots of fun.
Gallara could use a good Kiss. It might help her feel less self-conscious.

CW: mention of child abuse, implied death

This is a flash fiction I wrote on a whim last year. It's ... sad.

It's hard to beat the Antarctic research complex in John Carpenter's The Thing. It creates a horrible sense of isolation, both from help and from humanity as a concept, and the cold keeps the scientists from escaping from the alien horror among them. What a great piece of horror.

In Prophecy #72, the MCs have to travel underground past a vast lake of magma. The ambient heat takes a toll on all of them. At least the magmaids swimming in the lake are friendly.
#SFFChat Q2: What about heat or hot environments?

Seff and Drohim live in a relatively cold country, and the weather becomes a concern a few times. Seff's next story will probably take place at least partly in the winter in a major city, and snow and freezing temperatures will be an issue as she works to undermine a nasty conspiracy.
#SFFChat Q1: Do winter or the cold play a role in your work? Share something about your wintery/cold regions, landscapes, planets, or towns!

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But my dear, your rear's delightful
In the biblical sense, just so

Sorry for the lateness, everyone! Introduce yourself and share a favourite winter activity!

CW: sexy talk
Chapter 6 of Grinks & Co. starts with the MCs sharing sexual fantasies in a bar. Taraltos' requires context, in the form of an anecdote from his days with the Monster Hunter Corps. Peaceful solutions are always best.

I find politics dreary and unpleasant, but I write about social issues a lot. Systemic prejudice, economic justice, war, religion's role in politics, and more have all shown up in my stories as direct and indirect plotlines.

There's a thing
In my soul
Aching to get out.
It's slept
For a while
But it stirs
And it yearns
And it hides its face.
It hides its name.
I'd release it
If I knew how.
If it took my breath in its escape
I would see it free.
I would call its name
If it trusted me
And stars
Would sing it forth.

Grinks gets bored easily and prefers action, action, action. This could take the form of boning her friends, or running sabotage operations on the evil duke's military and economic ambitions. Either way, she's having fun.

How does your character handle boredom/idleness?

Do they enjoy a lazy day doing nothing? Do they need it, sometimes? Or do they always want to be doing someone, and idleness makes them restless and unsettled?

Gallara is certain that everyone will interpret everything she says and does in the worst way possible and hate her for it. The sections in her POV often use confrontational words for what other people say (snapped, accused, etc.) even when they're being nice.

Laylee would be curious about Grinks' masochism, but she's not masochistic herself or especially interested in sadism-ing Grinks herself. She's always happy to see her friends having a good time together, though, whatever that entails.
