A cousin I wasn't close to told me when I was a teenager to name drop him in one of my stories, just as a joke. I actually did name a fantasy character after him in my thirties, though. If I publish it, I'll send my cousin a copy.

Have you memorialized a loved one in your fiction? Or used them as inspiration or inserted a reference to someone from your life whom you love somewhere in your work?

I had a lovely afternoon, playing my favorite complicated strategy board game with a dear friend (she clobbered me, like always). I need this more often.

Drohim and Seff are both human, although her species isn't implied until long into the story; their world includes gnomes, elves, and dwarves. It's implied they live in the same world as in Prophecies, which includes faeries, minotaurs, orcs, and more.

Are your characters human?

If not, tell me a little about what they are!

If so, are there any non-human species they interact with regularly? Tell me a bit about them and the type of relationship they have!

In Prophecies, afterlives are poorly defined and described, so no one really knows what to expect; they may or may not have anything to do with which god you worshiped most. All Zedenko knows is that he needs to break his curse or he won't get one at all.

In Prophecy #72, the MCs visit the city-state of Caldera, built in an actual caldera. Then they go underground, where they find a huge lake of magma, complete with dolphin-tailed magmaids swimming in it; it's hot as hell, but not directly threatening.

Grinks & Co. could be titled "Sexual Fantasy," but that's probably already been done.
Prophecy #71 and Prophecy #72 were originally titled (together) as "Companions, I Guess" to riff on quest fantasy group dynamics, but that was boring and didn't put the point across well.
#Novmemeber 19

Give us an alternate title to your WIP. Another title you considered, your working title, or a joke title.

Potential examples:
Of Mice and Men was originally Something That Happened
The Da Vinci Code might've been ScavengerHuntWIP
Frankenstein could be How to Make a Guy in 10 Days

In Prophecy #72, Alakshi (who is really, really drunk) finally confronts her best friend, Kolent (who is a monster from another layer of reality), about his discomfort with her befriending the other MCs.
Art by Mona Finden.

I know Joss Whedon is awful, but Zoe Alleyne Washburn is a great character. She's addressing this quote to him.

Well, I went to sleep and woke up after this chat ended, since my Tuesday nights are spoken for. I got a good night's sleep, so that's cool.

I’d really like to sleep until __________.

I would probably dedicate time to writing each day, if I had no other commitments or anything else to worry about, and focus on writing my WIPS most of the time. I like writing flash fiction when an idea hits me, and I would still allow that.
#WriteStuff Q5: If you were given the gift on 365 days – no concerns, no constraints, no colds, no commitments – what would you write in that time?

Seff's second chapter is her recalling how she became a squire, before the events of the first chapter lead to all the others. That's as much messing about with time as I do. If my characters' pasts are relevant, they usually just mention whatever details are important when needed.
#WriteStuff Q4: Do you bend time in your writing? Do you use time travel, flash backs? Slow motion inside your MC’s brain? Jumping ahead in the story?

My two current WIPs are Grinks & Co. and Seff's (so far) unnamed story.
Seff's story takes maybe a month or two; I'm not quite sure how long the third act will take.
Grinks & Co. is going to last several months, at least, but the first several chapters happen within a few weeks.

I don't set time aside specifically for writing, but I usually make a point to do at least a little writing each day. Nothing strict. I feel less pressured that way, which makes it easier for the words to flow. More importantly, the lack of pressure keeps it fun, which is my real goal.
#WriteStuff Q2: How much time do you devote to writing? Per day, per week, whatever time frame you use. How does that compare to how much time you would prefer to be writing?

The last WIP I finished was my Prophecies duology. It started as just something for practice with no plot. Long breaks, lots of brainstorming, endless edits ... I first tried to pitch it almost six years after I made the first keystroke, and I've kept editing it ever since.
#WriteStuff Q1: We’re chatting about a wide range of times related to you and your writing. Let’s start with you. How much time did you spend on your last WIP, from idea to final edits?

Hi, I'm Fox. I've been working on my 🌶️ WIP, Grinks & Co. lately. Specifically, I've been fleshing out one of the MCs' journey from sexual repression to rebellious exhibitionism to celebrating sex (and exhibitionism) as a good thing on its own. The other MCs just like healthy sex, period.
Aloha! Welcome to #WriteStuff where writers talk about writing.

I haven't seen it much in romance, but it's fun in porn.
Case in point: Grinks the goblin in Grinks & Co. is half the height of her three FriendWBs. It's a lot of fun to write how she uses their height difference for everyone's enjoyment.
Happy Trope Tuesday! Today's topic: Height difference romance (tall man with a short woman or the opposite)

Is this a trope you like? Where have you seen it done well? Where have you seen it done bad? Do you just absolutely hate it?

Check below for our stance on Tropes!

I would take Gallara's advice on gardening or running a business (she's a freelance landscape architect), Alakshi's on beer, and Zedenko's on getting away with crime (but I'm a law-abiding citizen). Nothing from Jorang.

Does it matter what the advice was on? Relationships? Money? Career? Other?

Is there anyone who's advice you would always do the exact opposite of?

Gallara has a constant companion in Prax, her best friend. He's an impdrake, a species that look like little dragons but have no magic and barely enough intelligence to understand language. He has the attitude of a cat, but one that's very devoted to its person.
