This was my response in The Guardian 3 years ago when I was asked if my work was a response to the prevalence of whiteness in science fiction.

I’m totally patting “January 2021 Nnedi” on the back. Yes, Nnedi. So much yes, 🙌🏾 :
Today was amazing and I’m too tired to post about it (I’m in Los Angeles).

However, here’s a magnificent creature of a clock I saw before the event (yes, its pendulum was swinging 🕰️🦄):

Anyone know what this raptor is? I saw it while driving and couldn’t get decent footage.

Turkey vulture? It was huge, but expansive wingspan! I don’t see whatever this one is often around here (Tempe, AZ).

I am not going to repost the vile and racist image that Trump posted last night of President & First Lady Obama because it is beyond disgusting. Trump is a vile racist as is every Republican that continues to support him. I don’t want to hear mumbling from Mike Johnson or stoic silence from Thune.

I’m Nigeria. 🇳🇬
I’m American. 🇺🇸
Also known as Naijamerican (one word, because it is its own 1 thing).
Two well-used passports.
Two cultures, that make one culture.
Imo state is the place.
Both parents, grandparents, etc are Igbo. 🩸
Two eyes, one point of view (occupied by international masquerades).

Video: Nigerian author Nnedi Okorafor reveals doubts over Marvel’s Black Panther

“Why would a nation with that level of power and technology stay quiet while the rest of Africa was being colonised and brutalised?”

Just a soothing few seconds of a male Anna’s hummingbird singing the song of his people.

Just posted something on Instagram and noticed that the post that is just a photo of my hand has been viewed 76,000 times, wth?!? Why????? 😳

Consistently, I loathe the way older male characters in TV and film are written to detest/look down own/NOT SEE women who are the same age as they are. It's toxic (because what must the man think of himself if he sees women his own age this way?!), gross and hypocritical.

My daughter and I are thinking of selling some signed/adorned copies of the complete SHE WHO KNOWS trilogy (maybe even the whole “Mystic Points” series— the trilogy + Who Fears Death + The Book of Phoenix) once I have the final volume…just need to get our plan together, 😊. Will keep you posted.

The rage toward the groundhog this year has been worse than I’ve ever seen it.

I’ve heard Punxsutawney Phil called sooo many names today, including a “raggedy bitch”, 🤣.

People are tired and angry.

I really enjoyed this story! Thought it was really funny, and I thought the way the main character wrestled with her personal sense of responsibility - and her ultimate decision - was really thoughful.

I’m interviewed in the February 2026 issue of Locus Magazine. Had no time to go over what I said when they sent the draft to me, so it is what it is, I said what I said, 😆.

I’m saving this for when I next get in a heated argument about the Trump Administration with my MAGA relative. I’ll just throw this in the chat and leave.

That’s not what I’m thinking. I don’t think anyone’s passing needs to serve a purpose for other people.

I’m thinking more about what these unfinished-stories do mentally to people who are inundated with the passing of people they know every day. It’s manipulative clickbait that leaves people hurt.

Now more than ever people's passings are announced without any cause of death. Honestly, I'd rather just never know if the detaisl can't be released, I don't care how that sounds.

Hilariously immature graffiti, 😆.

Probably sprayed by a twelve-year-old boy. And yes, it said “PENIS” next to that crude drawing of one with hairy balls, lol.
