This was my response in The Guardian 3 years ago when I was asked if my work was a response to the prevalence of whiteness in science fiction.

I’m totally patting “January 2021 Nnedi” on the back. Yes, Nnedi. So much yes, 🙌🏾 :
My daughter has been in the UK for three weeks and she’s coming back today.

On one hand, there was something refreshing about having my child out of this convulsing country. On the other hand…

It’s always fun looking through past used book purchases only to realize you have an author signed copy! 📖🖋️

First novel of the year bought.
Bought it on impulse, not based on any rec or review, just read the first page and got hooked, mine mine mine. Looking forward to it.

Am I just too hippy dippy for this world? There’s a footage of the guy walking slowly in front of a car, not allowing the car to pass. He claims his deaf. He wasn’t. Eventually, two men come and shove him so hard off the road that he falls. All the comments are applauding their actions…

I saw this sundog on my walk today. I needed a moment of beauty, and the sky delivered. The image is softened here; in real life, it was far more vivid.

Periwinkle the Chukwu.
Regal and very demanding.

Me with my two scaredy cats on New Year as the house shook from the fireworks exploding outside. What a way to start 2026, 🎆😆🐱🐱🎇.

I’m just coming out of the gym and bright and high in the sky is the near-full wolf moon and a super bright and clear Jupiter. No other stars. Kinda cool.

This is my 1st time in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction (I just never thought to submit there, heh).

My story is called “The Apology Tour” & it’s set in the world of DEATH OF THE AUTHOR. It's about the consequences of AI. Plus, you meet Ijele for the 1st time, imagine that, 😉.

In Phoenix, they blow up fireworks from about 5pm and well beyond midnight. The moment New Year hit, this place was vibrating. Neptune (my sphnyx) was so scared, heh.

I recorded this 5 minutes after New Year, when the fireworks began to subside. Periwinkle was there as emotional support, 😆.

One thing few talk about is watching several your male friends have very small children when you had your own child over two decades ago.

Neptune just ran up to me, licked my arm and pranced off.

Periwinkle came and plopped himself beside me and promptly went to sleep.

It’s great to be loved by cats.

It wasn’t a banner year for reading, but it was eclectic. Aiming for twice as many in 2026.

If I could recommend only one, it’s definitely “Death of the Author” by @nnedi.bsky.social. Her books are imaginative, innovative, and thoughtful.
