Kyoka had mentally prepared herself to cause no trouble for her mother on the first day of school. She had her little backpack ready. Her eyes were focused forward. As a result, she was so ready to walk right in and not disrupt her mother's schedule that when Masuyo knelt down and gripped her shoulders, Kyoka blinked, staring. Masuyo smiled kindly, caressing Kyoka's cheek. As she spoke, she kept her voice low and soft. "My wonderful girl. Your beautiful mind is incredibly advanced. I know most of these classes and activities will bore you. Please, have patience. I will consider your patience a gift to me. Be as calm, respectful, and polite as you can be, even when the other children frustrate you. "Kyoka, may I ask you about something that has troubled me?" Kyoka immediately focused with serious attention. "Of course, Mama." Masuyo smiled warmly again. Kyoka's attentive care was something she appreciated deeply. Masuyo only lost her smile for the sake of focusing on the topic she wanted to broach. "Your powers are so extreme, and it is clear that they are... demonic. I love you, and I trust you, Kyoka, so I simply want to confirm that it's not... hurtful to have you harm or destroy these curses and demons? Especially with Hasava in our lives, it's clear that demons are just... a different culture. The evils they perform aren't really that different than what humans do to each other. So I... needed to check with you, and make sure I'm not pushing you to do something you're not comfortable with." Kyoka had been worried at first, only because her mother saying 'demonic' brought up old fears. Masuyo's full explanation let her relax, and Kyoka offered a gentle smile in immediate response before she spoke. "Mama, you are so kind to worry for me. Please, be at peace. There are several reasons there is no issue for me to help with these things. I think the simplest and most obvious, however, is part of demonic culture itself. Demons thrive on conflict. It is part of," she did pause with a faintly awkward hitch before choosing her next words, "their development to fight. Demons fight each other more than they attack humans. Power is gained and skills refined. It is the main reason my old self never moved to wipe out humanity." Masuyo blinked a few times in open astonishment. "Can... can you explain more, please?" Kyoka nodded, gesturing casually. "Demons benefit from the skirmishes with humanity. It prunes the weak and feeds the strong. There was no reason to wipe humanity out, and, moreover, humanity that has the ability to evolve, train, and refine their abilities is more beneficial to this cycle than a culture forced into survival reflex at all times."
