When I first started going to Barça games around 2012, I was amazed by how bare bones everything was. The stadium was like a high-school football stadium in GA. The big screen was tiny. There were like three things on offer at the concessions. They're much more tourist friendly now and I hate it.
American sports thinks that the audience has to be constantly stimulated and assaulted from all senses. It’s really ridiculous going to sporting events and realizing that there’s not one moment where you’re not being overwhelmed by something.
Think my oldest person belief is "you don't always need to blast music in between the action at a sporting event"

Went with friends to see "Hardcore Henry," shot with a Go-Pro, and had to walk out after half an hour because it gave me such a terrible headache.

I also remember seeing "Inglorious Basterds" in a full theater and the incredible, palpable tension as Landa turned the screws on LaPadite.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

this fact is the definitive judgment on kirk's life
ultimately, no one even grieved Charlie Kirk. he was just another thing for the worst people on earth to get outraged over. and when the outrage of real events wasn't enough, they invented new ones.

not even his wife saw his death as anything other than an opportunity.
my read is they were trying to whip up the usual frenzy, but then the effort got blown up by Candace Owens saying The Jews did it

"Panini" kind of rankles me, but I could never use "panino" because it Italian, that has the broader definition of "sandwich," so it wouldn't even really be appropriate.

"Data" strikes me as essentially uncountable in English. I'd say "the data is interesting," not "are" nor would I say "datum"
Some people vocally oppose using ‘data’ and ‘panini’ as singular nouns, saying they come from plural nouns.

That’s true, but that also goes for ‘marvel’ and ‘joy’: they used to be plural too.

And ‘cherries’ and ‘peas’ used to be singular.

Zoom in to learn all about this phenomenon: reanalysis.

I'm sorry but I don't think what Lizza is doing is comparable to revenge porn. Nuzzi has made a lot of serious allegations against him over the course of 2 years and he is responding.

Some of the rollout has been tacky, but it's not illegitimate to set the record straight and tell the full story.

For Trump, declining to 36 percent approval is “good news.”

For Biden, holding steady at 41% is “a source of concern.”

Cosmopolitan, egalitarian values are better than authoritarian values and it would be cool if one of our two political parties argued as much instead of spending decades trying to avoid cultural arguments by clinging to "it's the economy stupid" or "kitchen table issues" or "affordability."

Hiring a Black woman: “identity politics”

Hiring a white guy for a job that has been held disproportionately by white guys, because he is a white guy: “subverting” identity politics!

I called her prose "execrable" the other day, but shit like this just feels like a 15 year old's idea of deep and poetic. Frankly embarrassing for a grown woman to write like this, much less a journalist, much less a journalist reputed to be a talented writer.
“I do not wish to be understood, which no one seems to understand.”

This is what’s missing from the book. It is a 300-page meandering navel-gaze. A Joan Didion impression from someone with nothing to say, vaguely offended that readers would *expect* her to have something to say.
