So much of the slop anxiety discourse also just feels like people desperately trying to prove They’re Cool, Unlike Those Other People who Don’t Have Taste
Avatar’s cultural relevance discourse is an expression of slop anxiety, the worry that most people don’t actually want something interesting like you do, and you know what? It’s fine if they don’t. Cool stuff still gets made and you get to enjoy it.

Very funny to see Alito complain about the court skipping full briefing and oral arguments for a quick shadow docket decision when he has signed onto innumerable orders that pull the exact same tricks and rebuked colleagues who complain about it ... www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

"Did affective (political) polarization break consumer sentiment?" is probably going to be a econ job market paper at some point
I started discounting sentiment data like consumer confidence a while ago because everyone's brain is fried and they now view this stuff through a political prism. can consumption be running this well if everyone actually hates the economy? or are they just spending the last bit of savings?

I feel about this analysis the same way I do about a lot of professional sport GM decisions, except for I’m actually qualified to analyze American politics for a living.
This person analyzes American politics for a living

It’s remarkable every time this dumb site gets in a doom loop that amounts to “Trump is going to outflank the feckless Dems with bread and circuses!” Because lol lmao
god imagine if they had gone through with the "reapply for SNAP" gambit

they're so ideologically committed to ending welfare that they. don't realize welfare chauvinism was their best shot at keeping the House (and why Trump won 2024)
Student Loan wage garnishing kicks off next month too!

Yall have got to calm your tits. The fact that this leaked out within 24 hours is, in fact, a sign of how little control the regime has lol

as a reminder, this would be way more likely to trigger an actual military confrontation than, say Venezuela

europe isn't going to go to bat militarily for maduro, but it is bound by treaty with respect to greenland lol
Trump: We need Greenland for national protection. They have a very small population. They say Denmark, but Denmark has no military protection. They say that Denmark was there 300 years ago with a boat—well, we were there with boats too I’m sure.

See, if we’re in charge of CBS, instead of telling them to talk to The WH, if I wanted a piece yk have more context, id suggest Dara
“Delegalization” is IMHO the most undercovered/under-understood story of the first year of Trump 2.

But it’s really, really hard to talk about it in a way that breaks through.

Some problems:

I’m mildly amused bc I was told last week I was being mean to someone’s emotional support leftist, but like if I want to be mean I will just straight up call you a fucking idiot.

Like even if you have a different interpretation of her motives, they all return to “she’s a fucking idiot”
But she’s a fucking moron who thinks this is debate club. That’s the most generous interpretation.

This is probably the most revealing section of “Bari does not understand the discipline she is trying to manage” with an implicit statement of what she thinks is less important. It is not actually the reporters job to make a case for the Admin, especially if they will not make it themselves
December 22, 2025 at 8:15 PM
This basically reveals that Bari in fact, is not a journalist. And I also have to wonder exactly how she came up with this list.

“We should spend a beat” is one of the more absurd statements yo write in a news story critique btw
The full Weiss memo is dogshit
-who cares if administration figures “regret” sending people to CECOT
-who cares about the criminal histories of the people we sent to CECOT, we sent them to a torture prison
—who cares about the “debate” over the legality of sending people to a torture prison
December 22, 2025 at 8:11 PM
A lot of the current social strife basically involves a complete break down of being able to understand anyone else’s perspective.
Right. It's not that different, in some ways, from Wrong On The Internet syndrome.

Learning to live in society with your fellow man entails making peace with the fact that a lot of people are, in your estimation, wrong about lots of stuff!
December 22, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Counter point, these two were full of thoughts and I miss them
December 22, 2025 at 7:14 PM
I think the actual problem is more mundane and also applies to other disciplines (especially medicine), where it can take a lot of time for paradigm shifts to work their way through practice and professional learning with and added layer of needing hundreds of districts to change direction.
also, I really don't want to rag on teachers too hard because they do a lot of good work and work hard, but a lot of 'educational science' is just made the fuck up [and sticks around for political reasons] and other fields (psychology in this case) have to do the work of throwing it out.
December 22, 2025 at 6:17 PM
It’s remarkable how utterly devoid of actual meaning any of this is
this, from Bari Weiss's 9pm editorial call, is just complete and utter horseshit. she can't even do damage control right
December 22, 2025 at 3:49 PM
lol, lmao
Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”
