Some people deeply need to log off and go outside Jesus Christ
I think this is actually fairly accurate also — the flop sweat from AI dorks is totally overblown, but the idea that this stuff is just going away is also unlikely and we should be thinking that way.
Like I said, there will be utility in many cases, but the "everybody get ready! everything's gonna fundamentally change by April!" stuff is reading to me as financial panic and desperation. There is still no AI product I use day to day after years of being NGMI'd at by former NFT people.

Anyway my take on AI is that a lot of people who are very online sound like absolute freaks when they talk abou AI and at the very least, that is not particularly helpful to any cause.

Except this story looks exclusively at tertiary sources of funding so??????
This is a huge deal. After years of leading in fundraising, Dem small donors are (rightly) pissed off at the spam texts and emails, as well as at congressional leadership. Meanwhile, GOP billionaire money is hitting record levels. Perfect storm.

The lesson from the Luddites wasn't to destroy technology (not their actual goal) but rather that the gains from technological advances should be more evenly distributed.
What I mean by "hype being true" is that the models actually *are* able to replace millions of workers - which is the core economic promise that tech oligarchs are making.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

This would hit a lot harder if you didn’t know he was also on the take for the same industry.

The subtext here is she’s trying to gin up charges against Raskin
Bondi crashes out over Epstein: "The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That's what we should be talking about."

so just ignoring the actual like insane thing here, switzerland does not have a prime minister. its a confederation with a president.
Trump: "So I put on a 30% tariff, which is very low. I got an emergency call from I believe the prime minister of Switzerland. She was very aggressive ... I didn't really like the way she talked to us, so instead of giving her a reduction, I raised it to 39%."

Even like a decade ago it would be a driving story that every pol would be expected to comment on

Honestly I’m shocked Trump hasn’t claimed she was kidnapped by cartels
This Nancy Guthrie story is a 90s news story happening in the middle of the downfall of the Republic. Like if OJ was happening during Vietnam.

“I will take the side of massive violations of human rights and dignity for do made up bullshit”
Here’s the whole sad bag of pathology if you can stomach it. What an absolute subnormal.

If you care about the nuts and bolts of college sports, subscribe to Matt’s work.
I get it. Nobody has enough money to pay for every paywalled thing they want to read.

But there is no way to write about what I write about, at the *scale* I write about it, and pay all of our bills just with ad revenue. Paywalls, for us, are necessary. You all wouldn't like the alternative.

Last thing and then I’m mostly done for today— but one of my biggest pet peeves in This Space is listening to people claim to be high information but routinely display about (or less than) the same level of civic incuriousness and moral dereliction as the “hogs” they disdain.

“Nothing has changed for the better in my entire life” is an incredible statement to make if you are older than like 12.

Also tells me a lot about your demographics!
February 10, 2026 at 7:23 PM
Okay but even if you believe this they didn’t and it was fucking 35 years ago. We can move on to the current situation.
Elliott Morris' "actually any Democrat could have won in 1992, even Bernie Sanders" seems deeply foolish and uninformed to me, a person who lived through 1992.

One of my consistent takes for like a decade plus online has been that there is no meaningful difference in a US Context between these two words. As we fight against literal Fash, it is even more imperative to cut out the dumb infighting.

This goes for all of us!
a thing we should consciously do on this website is stop just imagining LeftistsTM and LibsTM in these cartoonishly stupid ways, as though these guys in people’s heads are in any way representative of either
the thing that gets me about the antivoting leftists is that they don't just want to not vote. they want to not vote and have all the rest of us admit how cool and good it is. a participation trophy for laziness

We’re all 38 year old dorks who engage in politics, unless you’re a complete weirdo who should go away, we prob agree on 99% of things and all voted correctly.
The flip side to a lot if this infighting is basically this but from another perspective.

Like virtually everyone on this website who isn’t a tankie weirdo is a reliable dem voter who almost certainly has voted in every election since they were eligible lol

kinda dont understand how sam darnold has become a central talking point of the super bowl. certainly wasn’t his best game. but we did see an all time defense pummel their opponent so bad it never felt like they were in the game as seattle racked up field goals
