Time for a new Sign of the Year thread. 🤼‍♂️
Lots of "well they said the internet was a fad" talk today re: the AI collapse. Even in its infancy, the elevator pitches for the internet were always there:
-Worldwide communication without astronomical long distance phone bills.
-Mail sent instantly
-Shopping in places you couldn't

"The tech sucks and is useless" is both obviously true and leading to a lot of dangerous thinking that it might someday not suck and have uses. No dude, it sucks and is useless. Media falling for it just like they fell for "the crisis at the border."
It's not either/or. I think the business model here is deeply deficient and there are a million problems, but I think this core idea I see a lot here "the tech sucks and is useless" is both obviously untrue and leading to some dangerous thinking that everything is going to take care of itself.

These people are such fucking morons that they're going to lie under oath, on camera, every single day for the rest of their lives but luckily for them, their opposition is the Democratic Party, so they'll all walk free anyway.
Lieu plays Bondi the infamous clip of Trump & Epstein partying together & asks her if there were underaged girls at any party the two attended

"This is so ridiculous," Bondi says. "There's no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime"

"I believe you just lied under oath," Lieu replies

There's this clip going around my Instagram feed of these white millennial women AGHAST that a Gen Z listener asked if they should take a $120,000 remote job or a $240,000 in-office job. "Why are you so scared of the office?" They asked.

Because office jobs are a prison work release program, dawg.

This shit is the biggest scam in human history.

"no bro see it has real life medical uses!"

The real life medical uses:
When AI was added to a tool for sinus surgery: “Cerebrospinal fluid leaked from one patient’s nose. In another… a surgeon mistakenly punctured the base of a patient’s skull. In two other cases, patients suffered strokes after a major artery was accidentally injured”

As AI enters the operating room, reports arise of botched surgeries and misidentified body parts
Medical device makers have been rushing to add AI to their products. While proponents say the new technology will revolutionize medicine, regulators are receiving a rising number of claims of patient ...

Notice how the popular media narrative has moved on, while people on the ground in Minneapolis are still struggling and crying out that things are as bad as ever. This is how fascist regimes operate — overreach, recalibration, normalization. Get louder, not quieter.

Disgusting. If you’re still following Occupy Dems on any platform now is a good time to stop. Unless you’re ok with antisemitism. Then please just stop following me or block me or whatever but this is not something anyone should be a part of.
I have to say, I do not love this new trend of large liberal accounts with millions of followers identifying Jews.

You cannot win an argument with someone who refuses to accept they can lose.

I'll say that again: You cannot win an argument with someone who refuses to accept they can lose.

You could sooner break a brick wall with your skull than get even a single concession from a provocateur.

Worth pointing out the obvious here: the camera didn't save Nancy Guthrie. And the feds have nothing in this investigation. And she's the mother of a famous person. You think anyone's gonna give a fuck if it's you?
This has a lot of implications well beyond this case. Many people put these devices in/outside their homes to see who is at the door or watch their pets becuase they think it’s livestream only and not recorded.

If companies like Google and Ring have magic backend data, we need to know about it.
Investigators wrangled video from Nancy Guthrie’s Google Nest camera out of ‘backend systems’
It’s not yet clear how the FBI collected the video. Experts said in some cases it’s possible to collect data from the complex infrastructure that has enabled cloud-based cameras.

This is one of those wtaf stories that we're gonna wish we had a functioning media to cover.
The FAA is closing the airspace around El Paso International Airport in Texas for 10 days, grounding all flights to and from the airport, for “special security reasons."

The FAA's notice did not provide additional details.

Sora 2 apparently cost something like $5 billion to run every year and so far made OpenAI around $1.4 million.

This Nancy Guthrie story is a 90s news story happening in the middle of the downfall of the Republic. Like if OJ was happening during Vietnam.

Basically DC Studios and Justice League. See, ya didn't do the 5 years of buildup. Wanted your climax without the foreplay. Republican men never beating the allegations!
I really think when Trump won by larger than expected margins (though still small), many conservatives truly believed they had finally won a cultural soft power victory and burned a lot of the actual political capital they had on trying to seem inevitable, and now more people hate them every day.
Chris Rufo doesn't have a career outside of being a "culture warrior." This is his movement. He made his bed. Now he gets to lie in it.

Victoria's Secret is another fading brand we can just let die like Target. Do you want to wear lingerie from this fucking sleaze bag? He was CEO until quite recently! Big part of that brand's history now. Think they'll turn it around? Have my doubts!
Billionaire businessman Leslie Wexner, the other predator named by Ava Cordero in *2007*, was identified as being in the redacted Epstein files in Congress today.
And one of the first survivors to step forward to try to stop Epstein? A trans woman, who was promptly mocked and villified by the New York Post, New York Magazine, the courts and law enforcement.

New York Magazine’s coverage from 2007 treated her as a joke & backgrounded Epstein raping her. (“rococo law filings filed by William J Unroch, Esq, on behalf of his client and maybe-girlfriend, Maximilia ‘Ava’ Cordero, a self-described model who claimed that at 16 she was molested by…Epstein”)
Leslie Wexner, former CEO of Victoria's Secret, was the other man named by Ava Cordero as her rapist and abuser alongside Jeffrey Epstein in 2007, only to be mocked and degraded and dismissed as crazy because she's trans.
