A reason I am totes excited for Republicans to havd to talk about healthcare again is one of their talking points was basically that costs would be lower if people comparison shopped healthcare
this is an extremely common and well understood surgery, obviously this was not a real number, but what the fuck
healthcare costs are an absurd kabuki theater between insurance and providers and no human being can possibly be expected to manage this shit
anyone who says otherwise is lying to you

To be fair, this is fairly normal and also most of these numbers are fake
so, today I got the surgery center where I got my deviated septum fixed to send me an itemized bill so I could submit to my FSA for reimbursement
my out of pocket cost: $473
what my insurance paid: $4258
what they tried to charge my insurance (not a misprint): $173692

I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

The whole 'don't eat things with lots of ingredients or ingredients you can't pronounce' is the stupidest advice & makes me immediately skeptical of whoever is offering it. Probably more people in the U.S. can pronounce "butter" and "arsenic" than can pronounce "quinoa," so then what?
“This thing is definitely bad for us but no one can say what it is”
The evidence that ultra-processed foods are bad for us is piling up. But efforts to reduce their role in our diets face a big hurdle: experts can't agree on what they are and which to target. n.pr/4qMrN7P

I do understand why we’re all laughing at this but I think Senate Rs will give them an up and down vote. They might even pass it, because it’s free to do so knowing the House won’t
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

The expanded subsidies are supported by a supermajority of Republican voters, including 57% of self-identified MAGA. More than half of all subsidy recipients live in red districts and/or red states. Congressional Republicans would have eventually caved to save their own asses in the midterms.
........and if they hadn't flinched, what's the mechanism by which those premiums still don't spike
"Republicans voted to (not) do a thing because they control the govt, then they refused to do the thing they already voted not to do, here's why that's Dems fault"

Addendum, Gus did not win a title.
Auburn University, a public institution, fired a guy who won a national title to hire a guy who was known to be an abusive asshat who they fired to hire a guy who got fired from another job for sexting on a work phone who they fired and whose interim replacement literally killed a player.

Sports is an escapist wish-fulfillment fantasy world where people who suck at their jobs get fired, people who are good at them get paid extremely well, and there exists an extensive infrastructure to identify, develop, and mentor talent
So you're saying (*opens notebook*) when you're in charge of an organization that repeatedly fails, eventually (*scribbles furiously*) you get fired and replaced? What the

i dont think there’s ever been a point where corporate america has had a sincere sense of morality but it is probably a sign of the times that the culture at most major firms does not even pretend to encourage ethical behavior anymore. the transformation is really stark in tech.
i honestly do not know what major company in america isnt involved in some ghastly shit at this point? i just would not *do* the ghastly shit yourself.

I’m super appreciative of folx like George breaking this down. I know Glonzo brain has decided this is Subprime Mortgage again but it does not look like that at all once you actually open the hood.
Here are data center ABS/CMBS deals priced this year. Total amount is about $17bn. LTVs are around 50! And they trade at a significant spread; issuance-weighted avg rating is around A; that slice of the generic corporate bond market trades at a spread of ~70 bps (i.e. healthy risk premiums).

For what it's worth, I do basically agree that even pretty good Dem Senators (e.g. Booker) should face a strong primary challenge
Some of them may end up deserving to win those primaries! But they should still have to face them

Okay, anyway gongshow of this aside, a very important note:
there is another cloture vote! 4 days, because Rand Paul is going to draw it out. The squishes have no spines, at all, and this goes two ways. Incandescent anger, especially at Kaine and CCM/Rosen.

DNC actively calling out the senate is... significant.
As this vote moves to the House, I stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and I am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote.

I think Schumer needs to resign, he cannot lead the caucus. Also all of these people need to be out of line for any 26 committee chair consideration
i think this is a very clear limitation of schumer's convivial caucus management style, only using honey is good when you need to get someone to vote for something, but it is not nearly as as effective as getting someone to not doing somethig
