Memo to Hollywood: make a movie about @mapcenter.com already.
Honestly, I'm pretty disappointed no one has approached me to option my story.

Big city consultant wins obsolete business. Moves to a small, post industrial city. Meets colorful cast of hilarious characters. I'm still waiting for a local girl to teach me the true meaning of Christmas.
Everyone has to stop watching those trash Hallmark movies about the big city girl moving to a rural town and actually liking it

As a journalist, I think a lot about how news orgs cover -- or ignore, or downplay -- protests.

This quote (and entire book) from Amy Goodman made a big impression on me, on this subject.

There are so many national pathologies blooming and intersecting right now that it's hard to keep track.

But one thing is absolutely certain: a society that gives up on facts and truth is cooked.

Support journalism. Particularly independent and nonprofit journalism.

I recently learned that, in 2019, PBS released a six-part docuseries called "The Dictator's Playbook." Each episode profiles a different 20th century dictator.

I watched episode 1 -- about North Korea -- and it was good.

I see that Tim Walz has said "This is not who we are" about ICE.

The last time I heard a governor say that, after the Tree of Life shooting, I wrote a piece in response.

Many friends asking what it is like in Minnesota right now. This video-clip tells. Masked men w/ guns in ordinary places (gas stations, grocery stores, cruising streets) intimidating ordinary people & instilling fear. As a terrorism expert, I think about the logic of government instilling fear.
