i wrote about shame, its role in our civic life, and why we need to make america ashamed again.

personally offended that the blank check guys did a whole episode about Inside Llewyn Davis and how who knew that Oscar Isaac could sing, wow, what a surprise and if they followed me they’d know that he got his start in a christian ska band.

every single week they're throwing this guy a special oval office love-in that appears to be the presidential equivalent of letting your dog scarf an entire big mac and fries before that last trip to the vet
Pirro: "Mr President, there is in this room a group of people who love you, who believe in you, and who are so proud to be in this Oval Office and to be part of this amazing day because you have changed the course of America."

my theory is Musk relishes the idea of being a Renaissance Man and know that means he should be a refined appreciator of art but is too busy with anime porn and anti-trans youtube videos to even watch a movie, let alone read a book, God forbid go to an art museum. that's why JCO's post cut so deep.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: joyce carol oates is the main boss of twitter. our finest posters have done some of their best work going after elon, but it's never rattled him like this. she got to him on a molecular level.

The reason I got into the line of work I did is because I want to help true, beautiful and important writing find an audience, which is why it was an honor to help get this piece from Kenji published. No share quote will do it justice. You'll just have to read it. sojo.net/articles/opi...
The Noose Has Tightened in Palestine
With a ceasefire in place, it’s tempting to ignore the broader issues that Palestinians still face: Namely, increased settler violence and the state of Israel annexing more land.

was kinda wondering if the fury over dems chickening out was just bluesky doomerism but if both ezra klein and matt yglesias are seeing red than schumer must have had a generational fall for the wallet inspector.

theoretically, Dems hammer the “we did everything in our power to both get hungry people SNAP benefits and keep healthcare affordable, but in the end donald trump his party just refused” gong from now till midterms. not a bad message, but it relies on a savvier narrative wrangler than Schumer.

vince gilligan a true master of knowing how smart to make his characters. most writers only think to write characters as either smart, dumb or neutral, and they can only show it by introducing them as “meet dr so and so, the smartest man ever.” gilligan can draw different shades of smart and dumb.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
