dumb jokes about smart things and smart jokes about dumb things

Podcast research/factcheck: SNAFU with Ed Helms; The Reason We're All Still Here; My Fugitive, more
my corollary to this is every time someone says "put that in the smithsonian," i'm like uh huh, and good luck ever seeing it in an exhibit at all, much less with the context necessary to challenge the status quo in the way you're imagining
Every time someone’s like “put that in the louvre,” my head now goes “and then steal it from the louvre, the security password is louvre”

Pluribus, somewhat surprisingly, is in large part about the push for AI everything.

But it's also about the limits of utilitarianism, and about consent, and about what makes us people.

Two episodes in, and I'm really hoping they can keep this up.

What has lightened my mood this Monday is also imagining Musk repeatedly coming back to that Oates post; reading and re-reading it, and knowing that he is just exactly who she describes: an amorphous lump of wealthy flesh, incapable of joy, connection or meaning
Joyce Carol Oates owned Elon so hard he's spent the last day posting about movies he hasn't seen in 15 years

Trump is 30 points underwater. Dems swept the special elections. People know the GOP is responsible for the shutdown. So the Dem Senators pulled out their big guns... and shot themselves in the foot.

experts predict humans will continue aging
Oh, *experts* predict this? Uh.... don't more millennial and Gen Z candidates HAVE TO run for office? Were more boomers going to run for office? Next thing you'll tell me more teenagers are going to enter the job market

"I will always love you," she says, hoping she is still containing a pained rictus of panic as she desperately, carefully, tries to catch the attention of any passerby who might be willing to intervene and allow her to slip away from this monster in barely human guise.
Elon has never experienced this and neither have his biggest fans but now they can create these visuals with the help of a computermachine

I think this bag is fake.

Hermes's flagship products are handsewn using a saddle stitch. A worker marks the leather using an awl and then threads two needles through from both sides.

This results in a tight stitch with no holes between the stitches. The holes here suggest the bag was machine sewn.

this is a 15th century version of those wacky 80s supernatural romcoms like Splash or Mannequin where the guy is trying to pass off his proto–manic-pixie-dreamgirl fish-out-of-water girlfriend as a human while her quirky uncanny-valley behavior hilariously confounds everyone they encounter
Looking forward to talking to East Lothian Embroiders and Textile Artists about Women's clothing in late medieval Scotland on Saturday 22nd at the Bleaching Field Centre, Dunbar at 2pm.
