“It is my image that I want to multiply, but not out of narcissism or megalomania, as could all too easily be believed: on the contrary, I want to conceal, in the midst of so many illusory ghosts of myself, the true me, who makes them move.“

This is indeed broadly true of rent-stabilized landlords in NYC when they lobby against things like rent freezes or low proposed annual increases. “Rising costs” in general audience stories about this almost always describe those as, like, maintenance or wages. But it’s mostly debt-servicing.
"owners of residential buildings pay most of their rent earnings not on maintenance or operations, but to service their debts to their creditors...they borrowed too much to buy...based on an expectation that rents would rise faster than they actually did." www.phenomenalworld.org/analysis/aft...

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

In Elmo’s World, behind the door that opens up to Mr. Noodle and his family, is a portrait of Elmo when he was three years old, and though Elmo himself has stopped aging, the portrait continues to fade and record every one of his sins.
It’s not a plot hole that Elmo has been 3 years old for 50 years. He was bitten by The Count, willingly. Elmo asked for the Dark Gift

Just going to note again, because somehow we've all completely retconned this and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, that pound-for-pound Biden had one of the most draconian border security regimes of any U.S. president ever, second only to Trump, *many of whose policies he inherited and kept*
Not going to read them all because jesus fucking christ but this is nasty work from Friedersdorf

All the skiing events seem to be about almost dying and powering through. The athletes behave like Saiyans.
Jessie Diggins, dealing with a bruised rib, was in serious pain after crossing the finish line in the 10km interval start. She's now poised to capture the fourth Olympic medal of her career and first of these Games, a bronze.

Incredibly bold move, considering that Casey’s defense is such an obvious lie but what will happen when more files are released and it shows, like it has for every person who has claimed to have no relationship with Epstein, that it was more expansive than they said?
"LA28 says that with help from an outside legal firm, it conducted a review of Wasserman’s past interactions with Epstein and Maxwell, with Wasserman’s full cooperation: 'We found Mr. Wasserman’s relationship with Epstein and Maxwell did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented'"
LA28 board backs Casey Wasserman after Epstein files stir scrutiny
Casey Wasserman is keeping his job leading the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after the LA28 board reviewed his past Jeffrey Epstein-linked contacts.

Ring’s national expansion closely tracked Amazon’s own established growth strategy: ignoring near term profit to secure platform dominance. It did this by subsidizing the devices through police-driven distribution (literally free giveaways for people willing to download its neighborhood snitch app)
They badly bungled this. There are many applications of this technology (Missing child! Missing dementia patient! Abusive ex-husband kidnapped the kids! Dzhokhar Tsarnaev!) that most people would likely support if they trusted the company not to abuse the tech. 1/2

Then Musk funded Trump's election win. Now, the Trump NLRB has dismissed the case.
