I've written on this question, and while I think detached house with a yard is a real preference a lot of Americans would hold regardless, I also think, to an American today, the question of preference is circular because urbanism is barely an option. thedeletedscenes.substack.com/p/have-you-e...
So your contention is that if we removed de facto subsidies for suburban living, we’d discover that most people actually prefer living in city center with no car? Of course, more people would end up doing that – the financial logic would change – but you’re saying Americans would on net PREFER that?
What is a subsidy, Alex?

These articles always depend on a bizarre Schroedinger's Seattle: The city is falling apart due to progressive overreach but we should have re-elected the conservative non-socialist who has been in charge for the last four years.

Oh, but you can dispense with that easily, by saying that the war wasn't *really* about slavery. They basically invented Lost Cause narratives before the Cause had even been lost.

Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

pretty funny in retrospect that QAnon hinged on the idea that powerful elites at the highest levels of government were smart enough to talk in code when sending emails to each other about their despicable crimes

Look. Invading our own country is about as straightforward a case as you can have for impeachment. The GOP abandoning the Constitution is kind of the only story there is and it gets no coverage.
Guys. I just had a crazy idea. What if the President DIDN’T deploy troops in American cities. Just a thought. Have we tried that before?

It's definitely this. I remember being a kid in the late-2000s and early-2010s talking about how I was "born in the wrong era" for not being an 80s kid.
I don't think that's what's going on. The people who made this clip are most likely Millennials or Zoomers too young to remember most what appears in the video. It's nostalgia for an imaginary past they never knew, not one they remember.

It's the same as 1960s and 1970s nostalgia was in the 90s.
