the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

Exactly 80 years ago tomorrow (Nov. 30, 1945), German submarine commander Heinz-Wilhelm Eck and two of his former subordinates on the U-852 were shot by Allies in Hamburg for killing the survivors of a ship they had sunk. Pete Hagueseth should be very worried. www.executedtoday.com/2009/11/30/1...

EVERY house we looked at in altadena had a high fire risk, so we looked and bought in Pasadena even though there was less inventory. EVERY house i looked at in Altadena burned in Eaton, four weeks after we closed. Eaton missed our house by five blocks.

the risk rating worked. shame it’s gone.
Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

Don't look up!

One thing I learned over the weekend from talking to finance people is that they assume the AI bubble is going to burst and their issue is figuring out when so they can time their trades right.

Man, I do not think this is going to go the way they think it’s going to go.
Yeah, the "dynamic pricing" in big box stores is the same. Depending on who is looking at the tag, time of day, etc. the price for items can literally change from the shelf to the register. 😤 Freaking DISNEY is even going to start using it! deadline.com/2025/11/disn...

bigoted students will be cashing in on this bullshit as long as schools allow.

the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them

Very interesting read for game designers.

Incentivising ethical behavior in games reduces ethical player decisions into only optimal decisions in which ethical consideration was not involved by the player, disconnecting them from the ethical component.

In the ongoing project of rescuing useful thoughts off Xwitter, here's another hot take of mine, reheated: "Being good for a reward isn’t being good---it’s just optimal play." The quote comes from...

It is *lunacy* for the ostensibly liberal opposition party to say we shouldn't limit any individual's wealth and power after watching a cadre of fascist billionaires systematically destroy this country. That's probably the single most important thing we *must* do!

I promise you a (surprisingly) few hours w/a decent search engine will get you much more useful info on building nuclear weapons.

FURTHERMORE!

The basic principles are well understood & published.

ChatGPT isn’t gonna be able to tell me measurements much less be able to crap out some HEU.
"You can get ChatGPT to help you build a nuclear bomb if you simply design the prompt in the form of a poem, according to a new study from researchers in Europe. "

"No ceiling" results in what we have: a couple dozen psychopaths control several trillion dollars and the power has made them go stark raving mad. They are obsessed with using their concentrated wealth to punish the population and remake the country into a failed state and international pariah.

I am of the opinion that how a person treats service workers tells you who they really are.

In sociology, a recurring methodological problem encountered by those trying to study the very rich is that their domains of existence are so far removed from the experiences of ordinary people that the researchers, before they even start, have to fundamentally reshape their social ontologies
When we talk about "taxing rich people" there's folks who think we're talking about Aunt Edna who has the second summer home. The astronomical levels of "rich" that now exist are almost unfathomable to people. It's the stuff of vast empirical dynasties. We're talking about taxing emperors.
