The body contains and articulates yet another organization of thought. I think the gender each of us ends up with (if any) is a reflection of how well, or badly, we are able to eavesdrop on the inner logic of our bodies. In this it has something in common with the talent for love–or art: A person who can understand what their body thinks is by definition one who also knows that rationality and power cannot and do not exhaust the possibilities of life. Moreover, a person who has struggled with him or herself in order to hear their self is a person who will fight for others. And this is now the logic of self-knowledge, a logic for which the intense seductions of silence under autocracy and fascism have already been vanquished, by listening.

Went looking for the USS Essex again after getting a mask and snorkel, but all I can find at the coordinates listed on Wikipedia is a slight sandbar. I think the waves have buried her over the years.

hiked down along the shore to see if i could find the remains of the USS Essex. thought i spotted something, but it proved to be just a tree trunk. if she hasn't been buried by the sand yet, i suspect she's further out. i'll need to come back with a swimsuit and goggles to give it another go

He arranged to meet with a psychiatrist but changed his mind in the waiting room and discussed other things instead, without disclosing his original reason for making the appointment. Afterward, enraged, he considered killing the psychiatrist and other people whom he hated. Kaczynski described this episode as a "major turning point" in his life.[31][32][33] He recalled: "I felt disgusted about what my uncontrolled sexual cravings had almost led me to do. And I felt humiliated, and I violently hated the psychiatrist. Just then there came a major turning point in my life. Like a Phoenix, I burst from the ashes of my despair to a glorious new hope."[34]
