"Peace if possible.

Justice at any rate."

I came across that quote a few years ago while reading a biograph of Timuel Black. I think about those words.

I think about those words a lot.

at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

Its a small matter of geography, but something that sticks in my mind is the fact that, of all the ways the state police could configure themselves in this space, they've put their vehicles between the protestors and the facility.
Earlier, in the first round of arrests, we saw state troopers drag one woman down the street over 100 feet to their wagon.

ICYMI, @govpritzker.illinois.gov in October claimed state, county and local police at Broadview were working "to protect people’s ability to peacefully exercise their constitutional rights."

In the month since those same police have arrested about 80 protestors at Broadview.

the scene currently.

i’d estimate the number of people arrested somewhere between 5-10 but it was honestly hard to tell amid the pandemonium.

protesters are signing, “whose side are you on? whose side are you on?”

Here in Broadview, outside Chicago, a large group of faith leaders & protesters have gathered this morning outside of ICE’s detention center.

This looks like one of the largest protests on Beach St. in weeks, where the city of Broadview is still enforcing a small “free speech” zone. It’s packed.

John Kennedy has been signaling he'd vote to release the epstein files for weeks, maybe months it looks like.

I think it's reasonably likely they get Collins, Murkowski, McConnell, Paul, Tillis, Kennedy at this point. They'd need seven more.

which...maybe? I just don't know.

One of the only constructivist churches in the world, in Kouvola, Finland, is scheduled for demolition because the declining population of the town no longer matches up with the cost of maintenance.

Man, this Wesley Dodds The Sandman series DC did is really good. A really fun period piece about a character archetype we don’t really have reference for anymore, a sort of sensitive bespectacled Bruce Wayne. He’s so earnest. He really believes in being a crimefighter.

in 3rd grade there was this teacher, Mr Freed, who would go off on these long tangents no 3rd grader could possibly follow about free trade and America’s rise as a global superpower, and lately I have had two thoughts

1) Mr Freed knew this shit about tariffs in 1993
2) wtf was up with Mr Freed

outside of individual donations to gofundmes and such, one helpful destination for your money right now is this bond fund. everyone being released from broadview needs to pay $1500 bond, which is obviously insane. it's going to cost like $925k to successfully spring 615 people linktr.ee/mw_bondfund

So yes, as many feminist/gender/sexuality scholars and writers are noting, it all really does come back to a political movement built on a shared idea and that shared idea is rape, the idealism of rape, the social purpose and necessity of rape, and the domination and hierarchy it creates, all of it.

Whether Kelly herself is in on this, idk and idc, it is her audience who is stewing in the ambiance of this culture, a culture that is trying to make a big comeback. The idea that it is just “normal” to want a girl at her “peak reproductive age” is a regular talking point at Turning Points USA lol

People are making their jokes but this is white Christian culture writ large. Women, girls alike are raised to understand that men goes after young girls because its their sex that makes them virtuous and their pursuit is just a natural thing that happens. Boys will be boys, men will be men etc.
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

It appears Magistrate Judge Laura McNally has arrived for the morning's inspection, along with a team of attorneys.

"Hold them accountable!" A protestor yells repeatedly.

"They had a week to clean things up, remember that!" Another says through a megaphone.

Its interesting, while the 2015 segments are about getting wooed by big money purchase offers in the esports scene, the energy is a spot on match for how a lot of stuff felt running a startup as a gang of young 20-somethings at the time. That whole period was so weird.
Today I learned that they also made a show for Paramount about competitive League of Legends and its up for free on YouTube? And its incredible?
