I love Alan Davis but doing this to Marrow was a disservice to the character and the audience.

Novels and games have done this occasionally but in the shows it’s pretty much the Kriosians by TNG time, though confusingly it comes up in “The Mind’s Eye,” an episode they do not directly appear in, and not at all in “The Perfect Mate”, where the Kriosians play a major role.
