This is what the elites who installed Trump did it for. Not the only reason, but the main one. This is the explicit outcome they were trying to engineer.
The unemployment rate for Black workers soared to 8.3% in November. That's more than double the rate for white workers.

That "millennial white men couldn't get good jobs in media/Hollywood/academia because of DEI" article is wild bc in some ways it's *so* close to identifying the actual problem, which is the complete destruction of job security and mid-level "good jobs" across all industries, for EVERYONE, since 2009

This Disney-OpenAI deal is breaking my brain. It's not OpenAI paying for the right to use Disney characters, it's Disney paying THEM. All OpenAI does is give Disney access to its API so that they can use ChatGPT and Sora to replace their animators, other employees, and 3rd party contractors.

I have 2 ideas on the NBA cup:

1) eliminate conferences when doing the group stage so East & West can be mixed.

2) Have the cup Finals on All-Star weekend instead of a non-competitive All-Star game. Friday is the final 4 play off and Sunday is the final. Saturday events stay with All-Stars named

I don’t care what happens with the Texas legislative maps. Democrats should still gerrymander the shit out of blue states.

one thing i think is true is that republicans assumed that democrats would not respond in kind and that the forceful pushback spooked them (a lesson to learn here, perhaps)
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

On the pod, DLCC head Heather Williams is informative on what's next:

Trump’s Plot to Rig 2026 Is Falling Apart, and Boy Is He Mad About It
As the Trump-GOP scheme to gerrymander the midterms suddenly faces big new setbacks, a Democratic operative who’s leading in these fights explains why the battle isn’t over—and what must happen now.

The obsessive wokeness panic is about elite labor market competition and prestige. People use a lot of fancy words to obscure this, and offer some substantive criticisms as well, but that’s ultimately its driving force.

The problem w polling - as someone who does lots of surveys - is that surveys construct opinions that simply do not exist in nature for *huge* chunks of people and too few of the data science bros conducting campaign polling understand this very basic feature the survey response. Vibes indeed.
The existence of this photograph (which is a real photo of a real person at a Mamdani campaign event) is enough to establish for me that voters writ large have absolutely no grasp of what policy is or how any given policy impacts their lives. It's all vibes.

ONE MORE TIME! One of the greatest successes in voter participation and youth activism in Georgia since the 60's was Atlanta's effort to raise signatures for a referendum on Cop City. They beat overwhelming requirements to get it on the ballot. The City Council responded by just... not doing it.

i have said this before but when “getting rid of race in admissions” for the administration means “you can’t even try to reach out to underrepresented communities and encourage them to apply and if you do it is illegal discrimination against white people” then the actual goal here is segregation

i actually think this is correct if the political spectrum is composed entirely of elites. which i think speaks poorly of our elites and poorly of the way political media conceives of politics in this country. fully aristocratic and white supremacist. clear who counts and whose politics simply don’t

people talk about the counterproductive idea of withholding their votes a lot because saying the thing that would actually be effective - supporting a grassroots effort to primary democrats or start a third party - obligates you to participate in kind of an enormous amount of work
“Elected Democrats don’t oppose Republicans sufficiently, so to punish Democrats we should allow Republicans to win elections” feels like a thing I made up to be hyperbolic and yet is endemic on this microblogging website
i said it before, i'll say it again: if Democrats don't explicitly campaign on putting these people in jail, then the only moral choice is to NOT vote for them until they do.

i think it's basically telling that the Mamdani campaign is basically the economic focused campaign that pollsters say voters want, but it doesn't code that way because his proposals are well to the left of the status quo
basically the mamdani playbook: (1) be charismatic (2) focus on kitchen table issues in a way that sounds legitimately authentic and not focus-tested to death

They didn't want Biden and Harris to win, but they do want Trump to win and rule us. So they use headlines, social media posts and push notifications to spin for him, especially around stuff like economic sentiment.
U.S GDP grew at a at a 4.9 percent annual rate over the summer of 2024, and the Times reported this as 'unsustainable,' bad news for Joe Biden.
