I read this right after I read about a 22 year old American citizen being held by ICE because they insist, despite her birth certificate, medical records, and immunization records, that she was not born in the USA.

The "Harris needed to earn my vote and she didn't" crowd are as responsible.
We can't win without their votes.

Telling them they are just as responsible for the things Trump is doing may not be the best way to get them on our side.

The idea that life would be about the same for people in America right now no matter who won the 2024 election is probably the most Caucasian thing I've ever read - and this is coming from me, a guy so white you can read by me in a dark room.
Do you think Harris would have protected trans people if she'd won?

Do you think she would have handled Gaza any differently?

Do you think she would have protected immigrants?

Life for the people who didn't vote for either candidate would be roughly the same.

And I DID vote for her, by the way.

as i like to say, actually existing capitalism is never going to stack up well against magical fantasy communism
This doesn't make capitalism the best we could possibly have it!

The problem is people are so used to socialism as a utopian pitch for freedom from contemporary wants that Hypothetical Utopia Socialism is compared to Extant Having to Administer Getting People To Do Necessary Jobs Capitalism.

Really seeing once again, it seems, that the real divide in the Democratic coalition is not left/lib/moderate or anything like that.

It's the fight/no-fight divide. And the 'fight' dems are the ones winning elections.

If we get polls in a couple weeks showing the generic ballot swinging back toward the GOP, come back and drag me but I trust the median voter to go “hey my costs keep increasing and the elephant man is in charge of all three branches of government”
I still kinda think it’s going to be D+12 in a year because the orange god king is determined to to be a blansas sized political suicide bomber
also, like, the die for pain was cast a year ago. the pain will continue for, at minimum, another three years. every choice now is between only bad options, and people will suffer no matter what choice is made, and senators cannot and should not be immune to that.

“woke” is when you acknowledge that black people have contributed to the united states
Two panels commemorating the contribution of Black American soldiers towards the liberation of the Netherlands in World War Two have been quietly removed from a cemetery in Limburg. It follows a complaint by right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission.

NEW: Judges around the country are citing an unexpected source to free ICE detainees:

The Laken Riley Act

They're finding ICE's mass detention agenda is SO broad it could actually "nullify" the controversial law.

It's exhausting because it feels like we "rediscover" this every time, yet somehow a significant portion of people seem to want to entertain the opposite *every round of voting*.
it's not sufficient, and it has to be followed by doing the hard work of rebuilding a functional society

but last night does show one thing: "vote harder" is, actually, pretty effective

the leftist fantasy of building a large, complex bureaucracy to handle large, complex human problems without any technocratic expertise whatsoever
The fact that a lot of leftists despise Parks and Rec - one of the best and most sympathetic depictions of non-cop government in modern media - is a symptom of the fact that a lot of the left has no idea how to actually implement the policy proposals they want to enact.
The reason 30 Rock succeeds years later while parks and rec has aged like a toilet full of milk, is that 30 Rock doesnt shy away from portraying Liz Lemon as an obvious villian with a victim/hero complex, whereas Leslie Knope was played just a straight hero character, even tho she is a neolib shill
